Sounds like you've already sorted this out, but in the future there are a couple of things I've had luck with. We had an 83 year old blues man come in recently. He has long fingernails and when playing acoustic, he taps the pick guard between nearly every note. I taped napkins on to the pick guard w...

I swear high passing is a must when you're mixing records that have less than ideal tracking. Square low end is almost impossible to balance, because there are NO dynamics. If you shave off the lows of individual tracks at different frequencies, it can help open things up. And low passing... an ext...

Thanks Gregg, Brett, goose... It's so nice to save time on setup and focus on mic placement, etc. Chuckles, in some situations I encounter this constant fuzz in the monitors, like the sound of a dial-up modem screeching my mind numb. However, it doesn't go down to tape, and isn't a bother while moni...

Speaking of Lowe's, they have a product called "Soundboard." It's similar to rigid fiber in application minus all of the airborne toxic fibre...rigid and dense for isolation or diffusion like cjac9 suggested. Which is it? Rigid fiberglass is ideal for absoption, not diffusion. They're two completel...

I made one from a 40's vintage rotary phone. it actually uses the speaker as the mic, so you talk into the ear piece. I recently recorded some spoken word w/ music. The poet spoke into a Beesneez Jade and held the telephone against his head upside down. We ran the telephone mic into my Gretsch G5222...

Speaking of Lowe's, they have a product called "Soundboard." It's similar to rigid fiber in application minus all of the airborne toxic fibre. It's CHEAP! It's also cardboard colored on one side and black on the other. It's great light weight, rigid and dense for isolation or diffusion like cjac9 su...

HA! The flimsy drums bit kills me. I used to play this Japanese Slingerland copy kit, looked AWESOME in sparkle blue, but it was like playing a drum kit in a damn bounce house. The rack tom mount had the integrity of a coat hanger! I don't know how these guys did it.

I'm in Athens/ Have a few friends in Atlanta w/ spaces... It's not cheap. Even the "Red Light" district is pricey in terms of rent. You may try talking to a couple of my friends who operate studios, see if they could use a little help with rent if you park your gear there. PM me and I'll give you so...

Two words... Rigid Fiberglass. I ordered 4 sheets of 2" thick 4'x10' Foil Backed from a company call Certainteed. You can get it from vinyl siding distributers in your area. It's compatible with Owens Corning 705 FRK. You have to wrap it in fabric, and while it's a little pricey, and you'll lose a l...

Believe me... I've thought about tape. I need to get new pictures up... I have a Soundcraft Spirit Studio 24 in it now, which I'm using mostly for out of box summing. The Busch is just there to let clients know, I do whatever I can to keep expenses low. Thanks Nick, and get well! Channel your inner ...

Record-O-Van and gratitude.

A couple of years ago, I had a studio budget and came here asking questions about how to invest. I just wanted to express thanks to everyone who advised me investing in room treatment; Especially Ethan Winer, JWL and Snoopy23 for specific advice on executing the build. Well, I built the studio, work...

Great advise here so far... +1 Gregg. Move the kick drum around the room and have the drummer hit it. Move it around until it sounds great... Then set up the rest of the kit in that spot. My living room: Wood floors, 14 ft. ceilings about 18'x20'. The ceilings make such a nice difference... However,...
