On mixdown, make another mix to a casette deck, record way into the red without NR, line the mixes up ITB and mix to taste. You can go from a little grit to over the top garage...Hermann

If your client wants a fourtrack sound, give him a fourtrack recording. To involve a lot of routing, time codes, protools and bouncing seems a little too much...

thanks for the useful info Corey! Sadly, I'm not a techy kinda guy, so building is not an option. I was just thinking about how to fatten up my vocal sound without going the obvious route (mic/pre-amp) because I remembered the sound of my guitar (years back) really benefitted from a boost pedal. I;m...

I was thinking of a germanium based pedal too, the micro amp was a bad example cuz it is just a clean boost indeed. I have already used some od pedals, sometimes it worked as a nice gritty lo-fi thing. I'm looking for that extra boost in presence and thickness. EH makes a new OD Germanium pedal, may...

clean boost pedal on vox

I've been thinking about getting a clean boost guitar pedal (like mxr micro amp) and use it to fatten up voxparts in my mix. Has anybody tried this or is it a stupid idea? I'm not sure how much noise it would bring to the table, but maybe it could really work. Just want to check here first, maybe so...

recording quartet

Hey guys, I'm recording a quartet consisting of stand up bass, accoustic guitar, small drumkit, sax and air organ. All 4 guys sing/yell and sometimes switch instruments. I have 8 mics. I thought Each singer gets a mic/each instrument a mic, but I will have a lot of bleed. Any suggestions? It's done ...

tascam 688 upgrade?

hey guys, I was reading some posts on forums the last onths about upgrading gear with better components and I was wondering if this was possible for my 8-tracker (and portastudios in general). I love my tascam 688 and really dig the sound, but if better components could make it sound any better I wo...

I find it a bit worrying that according to some replies here, people are graduating from audio school and become 'professional' engineers and have only read about tape and never even used cassette let alone a wider format? Or did I read that wrong? That's an awful mess....I'm not against digital, bu...

Wider tapes makes less noise between the channels so it is better....however tape is expensive. It is a waste of time too. People are more impressed with a good song than a good recording of it. I love the old 8 track analogue machines they sound great.....Problem comes when the people that you are...

when everything would sound hi-fi, this world would be a boring place to listen to... lo or mid-fi means more coloration possibilities to use when painting. Not everybody can paint or chooses the right colour when painting. But lo-fi is not a bad thing in my book at all, it's just a decission...and ...

I totally agree on that, it's just that cassette gets a very bad rep by too many people who haven't used good portastudio's...my tascam 388 sounds a lot better though, not even talking bout 2 inch machines...
