Well-reference mixes are actually your choice. It depends on what you personally like the sound of....For every one great sound that one person loves another hates.....especially when dealing with POP HITS. But when you find the mixes that you think sound awesome....then use those as references agai...

Compression guy that said basically read the manual and understand all the buttons is correct. Also learning limiting and automation and the actual place where you put the compressors really will make the whole track sound better. There could be 20 compressors going on each song actually. vocals can...

I would tell them to go back to the place that told them about the treatment and pay their price. it is probably a fair price and the new client is searching for someone to do it free.....In my experience.

Oh and usually I stick with the highest OEM brand of ram and video adaptors.....buy the highest you can afford at the best deal.......it will all be changed out in two years anyways and work until then and then wouldn't be worth anything anyways.

HP desktop for around 500 bucks. Use an old shitty monitor since you are a musician....those are free on the side of the road or you should already have one. Anything you update such as a video card.....is good. Soundcards are about 200 dollars used on ebay.....you are looking for something that is ...

Actually it is really more about getting to know the people that are in whatever forum you are using. Every one has different people saying different stuff and you have to be able to figure out what and why they are answering you the way they are....and that only comes by getting to know those peopl...

Avoid Vista. If you're going PC, use XP. AFAIK there is no advantage to using Vista over XP for audio apps, but there are a boatload of problems that come with Vista. Even if Vista were a little faster, reliability and stability are MUCH more important for what you're doing. All you need to worry a...

The Drummer's skill IS the only key to getting that sound......and the ability of you to explain to him what you want.

ANY drummer can't do that.....that's what talent is for.....Mics,pre-amps,knowledge, DAW, plugins, rooms, mic positioning.....are all bunk to an actually GREAT drummer.

If I have to remix it from scratch then I make the band re-record it from scratch. This time with a click track.....HEHE. mistakes are usually what makes the good parts sound good though. But once in a while I get pissed and have added too much to it....and analyzed a crappy song way too much..........

I agree with you all too....when I first read the posters post I was thinking he was a total high school newbie type..which is poor judgement on my part. I was assuming he was asking which mic to buy a condensor or dynamic....then when I went back to actually read it I found out he meant several mic...

sorry about the condensor comment. a collection of mics would be mostly dynamics.....But if I had 4 mics and under the most important one would be a condensor mic. since vocals in a studio and acoustic guitar are generally the most soloed tracks a condensor picks those up the best. SO it is a must h...
