Yeh, man, if you find an API for that price, buy it.screamingvikingstudio wrote:i feel like something along the lines of an Api would be a nice compliment... i'd like to keep it around $500, give or take $200.

Just posting to say that my Joe Meek VC1Q is a top-quality preamp that holds its head high in the company of preamps that cost way way more. Sometimes my Meek tracks sound exactly like my Neve tracks. I believe owning the VC1Q is the cheapest way to own a GREAT preamp. The compressor, EQ, and enhanc...

Re: Bypassing preamp on LA-610?
Can you use the unit as a compressor only? Could one bypass the preamp entirely? I'd sure like to be able to use other pres with the compressor. You asked two questions. The answer is YES, you can use the unit as a compressor only, and NO you cannot bypass the preamp entirely. I do it all the time....

The only BSS Opal gear I have used is the DPR-901 II Dynamic Equaliser. Let me tell ya, it is an awesome one-of-a-kind tool. I used it like a compressor, but set to compress only those frequencies that got too loud and offensive (on a screeching lead guitar and on a loud singer with zero vocal techn...

Re: Preamp settings
1. Set the output to max and SLOWLY crank the gain until desired signal level? 2. Set the gain to max and SLOWLY crank the output until desired signal level? Gee, I don't set either one to max. I usually start out with both knobs about medium and go from there, listening to what sounds best. There'...

Demeter makes fine preamps. They were one of the first "boutique" companies to build outboard preamps, back in the early nineties. But they don't advertise much, and so their name is not getting out in front of many people. It's really solid gear, but since there's very little word-of-mouth on Demet...

I really like the 4033. Great for my voice (but not everybody's). Great for acoustic guitar, and guitar amps, and percussion instruments like bongos and congas. There are a LOT of cheap mics that sound sorta like the 4033, but not quite as good. What I'm trying to say is, the 4033 is not that differ...

Can you confirm that's an input, and not an output?junkyardtodd wrote:and then run a cable from the "low gain" input into the amp you actually want to record with.

Re-launch Disk Utility (Apps>Ulilites>Disk Utility) while you have the external connected. Does it show you anything? In Disk Utility it only shows my 2 internal hard drives. Doesn't show the external CD burner or the internal burner (which is apparently DVD read/write and only able to read CD's. H...

I updated as soon as I discovered it was free! Updated to OS 10.4.11 and updated i-Tunes to 8. But I don't know if it fixed anything. The menus have changed in I-Tunes and now it's not showing my external CD burner like it was before the upgrade. And when I select the "Burn Folder" on my desktop, an...

Is there any reason you haven't upgraded the OS to 10.4.11? Been wary of spending more money. I'll look into that. Thanks for all your help, both of you. So right now it looks like the internal burner writes DVD's but only reads CDs. Weird. As for the external burner, the system profiler shows this...
