Re: JBL sound quality ... love it or shun it?
A yahoo search for apogee gives quite an extensive reputation for their sound. Yes, more classical-oriented, which might be what I need for the sounds in my head. However, I'm having a hard time finding a store around me that sells them so I could go hear them for myself. Thanks again for the insigh...

Re: JBL sound quality ... love it or shun it?
Hey Ted Thanks for the help. I'm looking at the EAW site right now, trying to understand all the specs. Do you have opinions on "wide coverage (EP2)" versus "focused coverage (EP3)?" For small venues I'm trying to think of pros and cons for each. How much does that matter? And for how top-rate EAW i...

Re: JBL sound quality ... love it or shun it?
There are tons of small self-powered PA speakers out there from manufacturers who don't sell at everyone's favorite huge retailers for a little more money. If you're really looking to get serious look at Apogee, a set of small EAWs or any of the higher end companies. Could you fill me in more on th...

Re: Sensitive Mics for Purrs and Hisses
You know, that IS a fantastic point. I have been thinking about that recently ... first we master or become proficient at an instrument (piano, guitar, or voice or whatever) ... then all this amping business requires that we learn techniques on top of our instrument techniques. Quite a complex thing...

Next in the ring ... Mackie vs. Soundcraft
For live mixers, I think I'm going to go with the Spirit FX8 or 16. However, I'm still comparing. Does Mackie have anything in quality to compare? Has anyone worked with a CFX or DFX?

Hey eeldip
Are you talking about the cheaper version Eon 1500? Or the Eon15G2? (I can't find an Eon 15p)

JBL sound quality ... love it or shun it?
I'm researching PA speakers and would appreciate opinions/experiences with the JBL Eons. I think the Eon 15's might be too much for my applications (small clubs, cafes, home shows). Has anyone had experiences with the Eon 10's? Also, how do JBL and Mackie compare to each other in sound quality? (I'm...

Thoroughly nifty site, however, could someone please use the words in some sentences, or rather, examples? (I need the human touch)

Re: Sensitive Mics for Purrs and Hisses
Bwaaaa ha! No no -- it's me doing the hissing and purring. (I can just see the live set-up ... a cat leashed to my keyboard stand, and in rhythm, step on its tail to get to desired response ... you know, that would be so so very cool though ... ) Yeah, I'm the same way with vomiting. I like to miss ...

Feelin' like a dictionary ... hmmm? Huh boy? Huh?
I would be most grateful if you could explain some terms to me that I'm not quite figuring out yet ...

internal vs. external power supply (source?)
"sweepable" (as in sweepable midranges)
British EQ
And, gosh, anything else you might want to throw in ... I'm all (cat) ears ...

Sensitive Mics for Purrs and Hisses
I'm looking for a sensitive live mic to carry across character sounds in some songs I'm writing. One song has some purrs and hisses, and I'm wary of those sounding like thundrous mud to an audience. I want something very very clear. I'm looking at the Neumann live condensers KMS 105 and KMS 150, but...

Re: Recording Devices for an Oddball
what matters most: putting the mics in the right place and performing well.... Ah man, I so agree. That is my first priority. What good is a record button if the music is trash? I liked whoever said something about recording the Beatles on an answering machine... But I am also trying to get smart h...

Re: Recording Devices for an Oddball
hi Lily, I think for the most part classical is recorded digitally but on very expensive machines not your PC or roland thing or anything like that. .. What machines are these? I probably don't have the budget for these, but I'd like to know what they use. There are so many brilliant, "pingy" class...

Need a laugh?
So here's the story of my always fumbling with words in music stores (which are generally male-dominated and apt for inuendos from innocent, TRULY INNOCENT, intentions) ... I was at West LA Music last year, picking up my new Korg Triton Studio, monitors, and other assorted toys. Once set up at my ho...
