Re: BLUE sure has lots of balls
i haven't gotten anything useful out of the ball either, but i am completely enamored with most of their other mics, especially the mouse which is infinitely useful, but the greatest greatest thing is that all the capsules they make for the bottle fit on cmv and rft bodies as well, and while i would...

Re: planning / documenting a mix, for those still mixing by
you can make little recall sheets for all of your gear in illustrator or whatever you have, little labelled circles for each knob and switch, but i recently started using a digital camera (since i got one for different reasons, it took a second to realize i could) and taking pictures of the gear tha...

Re: Why do my masterlink mixes suck?
no offense to anyone, but the studio i usually work out of has had one for years and i think the masterlink is one of the biggest pieces of shit i have ever used, i can't begin to count the amount of errors it's given me, half the time it won't play cd's that it burnt itself! the list of things i ha...

Re: Bose -- weird or not?
no comment about any other product but my mom gave me one of those expensive alarm clock small radio deals and it's a great alarm clock, wakes me up every morning, but (and this is in no way an original idea) i've been using it to check mixes in the studio as sort of the boom box test (very convenie...

Re: Music store salesperson disgust today
look, i'm not justifying any asshole's actions (or words), but not everyone that works in a music store falls into the dumbass/jerk category like i often see posted around here, i work in a music store ("boutique" acoustic guitars) and there are some benefits to doing so, it pays my bills when doing...

Re: aluminum necks?
i could be wrong, and i usually am, but don't think a travis bean neck would work on a regular guitar, i have one (forgot the model, but arched koa with the black neck) and the neck extends halfway into the body, much further than a standard electric guitar, you would have to route out most of the b...

Re: hate my live distortion sound
i've had great results with one of those mesa v-twin pedals, i've had one for years and have used it with a bassman head in the past and it sounded great, they are kind of expensive though, if your strat has single coils though that might be part of the problem, you might consider getting a humbucke...

Re: To Many Tracks To Mix!!
i think every "artiste" you'd have to approach differently and diplomatically, i guess that's just kind of a situation dependent personal thing, like don't tell them how bad it sucks at the end of a twelve hour plus mixing day, as far as what to say, tough one; i can relate this though, i let a band...

Re: my 002 is conked, help
wedge, maybe, but i really don't think i was clipping anything internally, i have an mbox at home too, checked it on that and it was fine - even after having to sum all the outputs to a stereo pair, i was using no plugins or internal effects whatsoever, everything was external, pro-tools was simply ...

Re: my 002 is conked, help
i just had one of those damn things totally fail on me in the weirdest way, i'd been mixing for 2 evenings and then two full days, and at the end, on the last goddamn song, i started hearing some distortion on the vocal, in the software i solo'ed it, it went away, i muted it, it went away, i put the...

Re: shure beta 56 on toms
i've used the 56's for toms and snare and haven't ever really gotten what i wanted out of them, especialy on the snare - they're sort of ringy sounding (sorry for the odd description), i have used the original sennheiser 409's a lot and they sound great, the ones the studio has are beat to shit from...
