Great for live but could make an awesome recording amp if you disabled the fan.

XP will only override windows files (stuff in the Documents and Settings, Program Files, and Windows directories) when you chose not to format. Get all of your files out of those directories and you will be good to go. I have done this many times.

Popping/chirping of the freq sweep is most commonly a dirty pot. If there are electrolytics in the EQ audio path, they may account for channel to channel diffs... but if they are film/mylar/ceramic/poly etc. they are less like to need to be replaced. Got a schematic?
