Old post about bass recording featuring a French mp3?

Does anyone remember an old post, maybe five years older or more, from someone asking how to record a nice Fender bass tone? The poster or someone else responding to the thread posted a very cool 60s-ish French pop track as an example. Can anyone point me to that thread, or better yet, to the mp3? I...

Any pictures available?

I've read that, but do the Ikea desks come with rack rail or 19" wide places you can install rack rail?

Is there enough room to put a 61-key keyboard and a hardware DAW like the AW4416 together side-by-side on the front of that unit?

That looks really nice - can you say about what those go for used?

Wow, that's nice. I guess you had to cut the birch into that shape, right? What are its dimensions?

Recording desk

I need to put all my MIDI and recording equipment in one small corner of the house. I'm looking at this desk, although it's a little bit more than I'd like to spend: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Studio-RTA-Producers-Station?sku=546553 I need to house a Roland D-50 keyboard, Yamaha AW4416 h...

Wow, thanks guys for all the great replies. Unfortuntely I don't have a studio or basement where I can put hooks into the walls but I can get lots of the others items recommended here like milk crates and plastic bins.

What do you use for a gear locker?

I've got lots of plastic Guitar Center bags full of guitar, mic & MIDI cables, wall warts, even my cheaper mics. What do most folks use for an all-purpose gear locker that can store mics and where I can sort cables so I can find them easily?

Thanks!

Re: Recording quiet cymbals & loud drums?

Thanks for the replies. I'm very used to bashing the cymbals as hard as I can. The problem is I think that as long as the music supports it, the drum sounds best to me when you really dig into it, and it's very hard for me to hit the drums hard but not the cymbals, especially in fills where I'm hitt...

Recording quiet cymbals & loud drums?

Now that I'm getting back into recording real drums at home, I'm paying a lot more attention to drum sounds and it seems lots of music out there is recorded with very quiet cymbals as compared to the volume of the drums. In some music you can barely hear hi hats and ride cymbals, and the crashes are...

Re: Micing very large drum kits with few mics

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of very interesting things to try out and think about. Here's a question, though. Would you keep the cheaper Audix mic set with the Fusion series mics or take it back and buy the more expensive set with the D series mics? Then there's a package that includes the F-10...

How would you get a stereo image of the toms - do you direct mic each of those?

Micing very large drum kits with few mics

I'm on the verge of purchasing a large drum kit, a seven piece (8", 10", 12", 14" mounted toms, 16" floor, snare & kick). I don't have enough mics to mic each drum and stereo overheads, let alone a room mic or two. I know, the key will be experimenting and finding out how I can come closest to the s...

Re: Audix Fusion Drum Mics

If you just need a bass drum mic, again check out the Superlux. I have a PRA-218A and a PRA-218B. The "A" is the smaller of the two and is like the Audio Technica ATM25 and the "B" is a big phatty like the Beta52. Both are really good mics, especially considering they are under $60 a piece. Thanks ...
