Im still on PT 5.3 Mixplus. Paid a hell of alot for it and it still works great. Digi made it awfully hard to upgrade the computer and hardware. My real legacy gear is the otari with dolby SR! I have spoken to a lot of PT guys who won't upgrade either. It seems like those who got into PT earlier sti...

I'll tell you what, I love our old aphex comps and EQ's. The EQs are real mild with killer filters on both ends. The CX1s are lots of fun as well, strange controls but they make sense after a few uses. Nice to have the gate built into them as well. We have ours in an API rack so had to mod them with...

Be advised concerning the need for a 48 volt rail on an Aphex 500 series. If you have any Aphex mods its not advisable to run them with a hot pin 15. The CX-1 "500" series compressor uses pin 15 for an external metering output. Run voltage on 15 with that mod plugged in and POW there goes your meter...

Am I the only guy thats gonna say less photos more words? While it is nice to have some visual stimulation, presenting a pic of a drum setup will do very little to help anyone with their own drum setup. Other than novel ideas like the Kurt HiHat quieting device. I find in reading tapeop, compared to...

If we can cut up the music and ask what is the most important part the end-listener will almost always point to the vox. We know that the entire track IS the track but vocals really do take the cake. With that known why spend days tacking the music then at the last moment work on the vocal. If you h...

Having never heard Kurts recordings or bands I found the article on him very interesting and informative. At the end of the article health insurance came up in a question and answer. Reading this made me recall an article I read in a guitar mag in the late eighties. The gist of the article was how t...

There are some trick setups that Ive read here, Familiar issue and to me you might as well tune every string on the guitar randomly and record that. Maybe try to work the guy down to as small set of cymbals as hes willing to go with that sound alright when hit hard. Figure out with him which cymbal ...
