Re: Most ANNOYING drum sound?

the meat puppets 'out my way' is a great ep with cool songs and awesome guitar parts that is almost ruined for me sometimes by the big poofy snare sound. i hate to say this but... i was listening to the soft bulletin by the flaming lips the other day, and i kinda got sick of the way that every song ...

Re: something i read in tapeop

Somebody should really track down an email address for Ian. We've got a multi-faceted discussion going on here about a few words the guy said (and for those of us who weren't there when he said them, they're out of context.) From what I've read, Ian would respond to an email inquiry.

Re: Let's talk 60s psychedelic bands...

...deep breath... the grateful dead if yer going for that san francisco poppy psychedelic sound (Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape,) check out their first album. Their second and third albums go into more lysergic (and STP and nitrous) influenced studio experimentation type of 'psychedelic' music. if y...

soulful detroit - motown, etc.

http://www.soulfuldetroit.com

cool site with maps, photos and info about classic detroit recording studios, hitsville, united sound, invictus, etc...

the 'terra shirma' story is really in-depth with photos and equipment info. that's where funkadelic recorded 'free your mind...'

have fun.

Re: can anyone recommend a set of bass strings

hold your group together with ROTOSOUND strings.

someone recommended 'em to me on this board once, and now i'll never change. they got that good big metallic piano wire sound, bright and deep at the same time.

peas porridge.

Re: classic radio songs and album songs being further record

i hear that all the time on the oldies station... i don't think it's covert remixing as much as that compresso-eq-boost/limit-basspump-izing they do for the radio - it sounds REALLY weird on some oldies to hear the bass all pumped up, a lot of the time it sounds totally out of tune even. tunes were ...
