Another "which interface is better" thread...

I know one of these pops up at least once a week, and they are usually exactly the same, but mine is pretty spcecific: In the fairly near future I am going to be upgrading from a lowly mbox 2 to something that will allow me more inputs. I am certianly open to other suggestions, but from my research,...

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said here so far: -421s are THAT tom sound -421s are very versatile (guitar amp, vox, kick, etc) -441s are just as versatle, if not more so (very great on snare, as mentioned) -e604s are surprisingly great tom mics. If you want all-around studio work...

+1 to the idea of building up the "drum" part piece by piece I've found, in my own music, some of the coolest and most unique things I've done have come from trying to work my add-on parts around the pre-existing parts that are odd or screwed up a bit. It takes more work and creativity, for sure, bu...

I LOVE at4050's as drum overheads, but, alas, I have yet to try them in a Glyn Johns/Recorderman type setup.

I have used 57's on GJ overheads before, and I dug it quite a bit! The room was pretty small and acoustically UNtreated, so we opted to use those instead of our rode nt1a's (the only other pair we had at our disposal), thinking that the 57's would be less sensitive to room sounds. I think it was a l...

How far do you have the two "Over Heads" panned? I, by default, hard-pan my OH mics because I like the idea of a huge stereo spread on my drums, but sometimes washiness can be lessoned by panning them in a little closer.

Is it a phase issue? Try flipping the polarity on one of the OH mics and see if it improves things. Any chance you could post an audio example?

I have an hm-7u. I must say, I like it a lot. When I first got it, I had regular access to a plethora of high end microphones, and it DID beat out a neumann m149 on one occasion, and an akg c12v on another (different singers, both hard rock music). Nowadays it is the only ldc I have regular access t...

Thanks for the responses, guys. I decided to wait and give ourselves some more time to find a decent one. It would be nice to shop around a bit, check out some used ones, and (as AstroSounds so wonderfully suggested) PLAY them a bit before making any purchasing decisions

Jesse-

If you can, maybe try recording into another DAW/Interface and see if the problem persists. It seems unlikely, but maybe your DAW was screwing up the files somehow?

Dunno, just a thought...

Any beginner mandolin recomendations?

I know there are a lot of dedicated mandolin and bluegrass/folk message boards out there (of which I have perused a bit) but you guys are the online community I trust the most, so I figured I would post this here. I want to get a beginner mandolin for my wife for christmas. Any of you mando players ...

Sounds really awesome! I've only perused it on Bandcamp as of right now, but once I have more time I'm looking forward to listening to more of.
Great sounds, and great songs, its refreshing yet familiar.
Feel like sharing any details on the recording process?
