Re: Les Paul built a lathe out of junk yard parts!!!
Yeah I knew an old studio guy who did the same thing at about the same time, said he used a truck clutch... it's really neat to talk to guys who were around in the early days.

Chris Bell experience
I just put up a web site with six songs on it, some of my favorites from the last three years or so of computer recording at home. Check it out: http://www.chrisbellexperience.com

I noticed that the sidstation was mentioned earlier. I just read a review of it at http://www.secretstars.com/. Sounds like a cool adaptation of the original but probably pretty expensive, no?

Re: Tracktion - anyone try it yet?
I also bought Traktion after a very limited evaluation period. My favorite thing about it is the lack of a mixer section, which is kind of a dated thing in my opinion. Not flipping back and forth all the time or setting up an extra monitor is a really nice thing. Some things are sometimes clumsy, es...

Philly is in the house. I'm actually moving out to Glenside in June...
I have a Lacie D2 and I have to un-recommend it for noise reasons. I'm only using it for backup so it's OK but beware.

Shielding: monitors or monitor?
I just bought a new G5 and I'm using what I think is a pretty cheap PC monitor temporarily. Sitting next to it are two Event powered monitor speakers. I'm getting reds sifting into greens on the right side of the screen only... I had the same set up with my imac and no problems. Am I right to guess ...

Re: protools versions 5.2, 6.2
Don?t forget that you can install OSX on your computer without getting rid of OS 9. I recently did this after having the same concerns. I can do all of the stupid stuff in OSX and then OS 9.2 runs perfectly well when I switch back to it. OS X is pretty cool, by the way, and it is not slow on my crap...

Re: beat detectives?
I would love to know about this myself. When I cut up beats, I just use Felt Tip Sound Studio, which has a grid feature, like other waveform editors, and keep adjusting the grid until it is pretty close to falling on the beats, and then make corrections based on the grid. And then I drop the drums i...

Re: time to buy my own apple, any suggestions?
The situation is really unfortunate. I am very lucky to be receiving my next mac as a gift, but since it is a gift there will no doubt be a price limit established... so I don't get to, like, "save up just a little bit longer" so I can get the G5. Oh well... I could be in a prison camp somewhere or ...

Re: Mac OS X DAW Selection tips....?
The reason Steinberg is "blowing out" the studio case, I would suspect, is that Cubase is losing market share (at least in the Mac arena). I would suspect that it is logic that is drawing everyone else in... something to think about anyway. By the end of the year I will most likely own three DAWs......

Re: time to buy my own apple, any suggestions?
Thanks for the tips. My room is like 5' by 8'. Fan noise can be a big problem in such cramped quarters. I can't even invite people in to listen to new work, they always just stand in the doorway looking uncomfortable. What;s worse is that the realtor counted that room as a bedroom.
