Questions about the sound of Yamaha N12 - anyone have one?

I'm thinking of selling my: MOTU 24i w/PCI 324 card Ashly MM-508 mixer Alesis Studio 32 mixer DBX 266XL Symettrix 525 compressor Basically the Yamaha replaces all that stuff functionality wise supposedly an...

That page was a great help. Great ideas there. Thanks for sharing. I found a place in my neighborhood that sells the cotton batting. I'm gonna make some frames and slap some up. Thanks a lot.

Room treatment by Friday

Hey Folks, What's the most "bang for your buck" option for jump starting the whole room treatment thing? I'm setting up a new jam room in my basement and the whole thing is too live. I want to put some (maybe 8 - 2'x4') 2" and 4" thick absorber thingies, spaced off the walls. I don't mind some DIY b...

I record in a bad sounding basement room. Condensers really upped my game considerably. I started with making 4 tapeop omni's. I never use those any more, but they opened my eyes(ears?) to the possibility of condensers in my room. Then I got a pair of cardioid SDC's (AT 37r Pros) that I use as drum ...

Sounds like you guys are living pretty frugally. That's not a judgement - I admire that - just an observation. But I don't think you want to pussy foot around with the fungus. Those spores are really hardy and will spring back as soon as they are able if you leave them around. You also aren't doing ...

I wonder if universal health care would be a bigger boon to artists than a Dept. of Art. Or would going the other way (less health care) be better for art?

Moral of the story - if you do have your house inspected for mold, be sure you hire someone reputable with good references. I think you can get a list of names from the City (at least that's how I found my lead inspector guy, IIRC). I'm sure you're right, but it doesn't even sound like he needs a m...

I think this could be done democratically. Take some money from the government and put it in a blind trust designated for the arts. Create some sort of board or voting mechanism to decide what gets funded. Lifetime appointments to the board or something so that it doesn't get politicized (too much.)...

Isn't there also that trick of pegging(clipping) really awesome converters and getting some limiting goodness from it? I've heard that discussed in threads about CD mastering and the loudness wars and never completely understood that idea either.

I dunno. Guys on here talk about running sound through the circuitry of old 24 tracks and shit just because of the mojo it adds. There's got to be *some* analog circuitry to those A/D D/A converters and maybe that shit sounds badass. I know it sounds wrong, but so does just going out of your PT rig ...

I gotta +10 what people are saying about not using "actual distortion". I recorded a cello through a Rat pedal once because I thought I'd get this monstrous sound and it really didn't "sit well in the mix". It was too out of control. I think the cello has too many over and under tones to distort wel...
