Re: Coronavirus Health Precautions for Studios

There has been research on the topic how strong people are infectuous who show no symptoms. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7219423/ Reading comp isn't my strong suit, but a quick skim of that made it sound like it was a study of one asymptomatic (but cv positive) person who came into ...

As for the bass I agree, amp, slight overdrive, pick. Not a ton of lows, almost no highs, some good gritty mids.
My first thought was quiet guitar amp. Which would kinda give you that eq profile you describe.

Re: Cabling: What's the cheapest 24 channel TRS snake you'd buy?

I'm not that into the sound of the rolloffs where I'd buy a special cable for dialing it in. I usually pick the cleanest, loudest sounding cable and then eq it with the volume or tone on the guitar, the amp, the mic placement, etc., etc. I only pick a rolled off [to me] sounding cable if I know I'm ...

Re: Analog electronics repair in Portland OR

This guy did great work for me a long time ago. https://soursound.com/ Before he was mister fancy pants boo-teek amp guy. It took longer than either of us wanted (because he was so busy) but he was super reasonable about everything and his repair exceeded my expectations and came in under his estima...

Re: Cabling: What's the cheapest 24 channel TRS snake you'd buy?

Gotta ask: To the extent you hear differences, are they qualitative? Quantifiably better or worse? Have you A-B'd? (ABX'd?) Lemme note that I think differences needn't always be necessarily audible - feel/response and even confidence are certainly valid concerns. You haven't heard differences in gu...

Re: Cabling: What's the cheapest 24 channel TRS snake you'd buy?

These replies made me realize a couple things. I've had Hosa cables since around 1985. (I just googled to see if this was even possible and Hosa's been around since 1984). I think my prejudice might be because recently I've had a few fail on me, but they might be 35 years old[!], so maybe I gotta di...

Cabling: What's the cheapest 24 channel TRS snake you'd buy?

I need a 24 channel TRS snake. My wallet is trying to convince me to go HOSA, my bougie side wants Canare Starquad and Neutrik connectors (or some similar shit). Anyone figure out the bang-for-the-buck patch snake choice? I'm not going far, 6-8ft, it's all balanced on both ends, but I really believe...

Re: WTB: Alesis HD24XR or comparable...

I don't think I can cope with the SCSI limitations. Does anyone know what the biggest hard drive you can put in am MX2424 is? The manual mentions upgrading to 18 gigs, but I'm wondering if that's it. Also, does anyone know if they can be converted to take bigger IDE drives?

Thanks,

Re: WTB: Alesis HD24XR or comparable...

The MX2424 offer kinda kills me. I actually had one a while ago, but it only had TDIF i/o I had it paired with a Ramsa DA7 with TDIF and it was a kinda cool setup. When I decided to de-acquire it I couldn't give it away except to this one kid who didn't even use it. Possible resale value is an attra...

WTB: Alesis HD24XR or comparable...

Is there anything comparable I should be looking at? How much worse are the non-HR ones anyway? I want a hard disk recorder that's at least 8 tracks and functions stand-alone. I want it to sound good. Any sleeper units out there? Thanks for looking...let me know if you're looking to un-acquire somet...
