I'm just starting to dig into this project of converting an M8 into a mic preamp, and I have a couple questions: 1. From what I can tell, the EF86 heater is hooked up to the 5.7V secondary from the power transformer. In the EF86 data sheet it says the heater voltage should be 6.3V. I think 5.7V fal...

Is it some kind of RC component?

Yes. It is a compensation network - resistor and a cap, sealed inside of single unit that looks physically similar to a ceramic disc cap.

FS Ampex AM-10 6 X 2 Mixer SOLD

I've used this mixer quite a bit over the years in studio and even as a spare PA mixer, but the time has come to put it up for sale. This is a 6 in 2 out mixer. Has 4 mic pre cards and 2 line inputs. It is a "hard stereo" mixer, meaning you get hard L, hard R or dead center (50/50). So, this means y...

TEAC 80-8 Troubleshooting suggestion on distortion issue

Hello Everyone, I've recently started getting some jagged sounding distortion from Track 5 on my 80-8. I've ran through some basic troubleshooting by doing the following: 1) swapped rec/rep cards (twice with different channels) 2) spray cleaned and reseated cards for each swap 3) ruled out input and...

WTB - roll of 1/2" analog tape

I'm looking for 1 or 2 rolls of 1/2" tape, preferably anything 3M.

Used ok.

Anyone have some to spare? I have an upcoming project and discovered 3 rolls of ampex 456 I had had gone sticky shed!! Needless to say I am trying to avoid any of the bad year ampex stuff.

Thanks

I could build a stereo version for $400-$600 With the 4722s and 15095s that you already have - maybe even less than that. You can always use a ready made DC supply from International power. 50 bucks. All you need to do there is mount it in a box and add a small filament transformer. A single supply...

I'm interested in making a two channel version of an Altec 1567A Straying off topic a little here - I assume you mean you wish to make a pair of mono pres and not a 2 channel mixer - correct? I'm asking because cannibalizing a 1567 could result in losing lots of resale value which = DIY funds - unl...

Have you checked the relays? I can't remember how they're mounted - but if socketed try reseating. Check voltages on the relay pins. Sometimes the relay contacts will get a buildup on them. I have heard mention of the 80-8 relays occasionally getting stuck though I've never had that problem with min...

Fuse 7 is the 24V DC power supply for the record / reproduce amp. If it blows check the voltage regulator IC2 and the rectifier diodes first. I have pdf's of the schematic + manual, send me your email and I'll fire them off to you. Thanks TiredEyes, I had a feeling a voltage regulator was involved....

Cool. Thanks.

The manual was readily available online at AnalogRules at one point. Looks like they've taken it down.

80-8 schematics & manual - Fuse #7

Anyone have an active(AnalogRules is apparently down) link to 80-8 schematics/manual?

Or if anyone has it already downloaded - The info I'm looking for is:

What circuit is Fuse # 7 (2.5A slo-blo) tied in to?

Thanks in advance
