1" 8 Track

Hey there -
I'm in the market for a tape machine. I need to keep my budget under 1000. I was thinking of getting a 1" 8 track. Any suggestions? (Or alternate ideas) My guess is a 2" is far outside that price range. appreciate it....

Thanks everybody for the advice. I got to say every step of the recording process I always turn to this message board and am always met with tons of help. So... I'm leaning towards the E-mu Vintage Keys. Would love to get the Nord (and hopefully eventually will). But I found someone selling the E-mu...

Keys / Midi / Mellotron ideas

Hey there - So I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I've been recording with the following keys: Wurli 200, Rheem Mark VII combo, and Mellotron (well, M-Tron pro). I've gotten a band together and my friend started playing keys. We're trying to figure out the best way to convert the ...

Multi-Effects Pedals

Hey there - I?m interested hearing some experiences with multi-effects pedals. I?m at a crossroads... if I should just buy a bunch of pedals I?ve been meaning to get (and go broke) or try to get a multi-effects pedal. As a brand, Electro-Harmonix are definitely my favorite. More than anything, I?m l...

What's it for, and when do you need it? (Yesterday, or do you have time to shop around for used gear?)... GJ Yeah I have been used shopping but have burning a lot of time without a lot of luck. When I do find something decent its usually getting closer to 400 or 500 which in the end I just don't ha...

Cheap PA system comparison

So I know these are far from amazing PAs but I'm in a bind and need to get something very cheap. Any thoughts on which is better? http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-FEN-0717150-000-LIST?SRC=D0407FG0HAMS0000&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=feed& http://www.amazon.com/Nady-MPM-4130-PA210-Channel-Spe...

Just paid for the GS-201 yesterday. Between the WatKat, GS-201, Guitar Rig's Tape Echo emulator, and my Maestro Echoplex I'm pretty set for a while. The GS-201 delays sound good to me. I think that the next thing for me to do is grab a rack mount spring reverb to put after these plugs for a more re...

This is all really helpful, thanks. I take it, its best just to use the tape saturation on the finished mix (bus 2 yes?) - not on the individual tracks. Any one try it one way or the other?

um, tape saturation works decently well. but getting that tapey analogy feel at the very end stage might be the wrong solution. i feel like you should at least be pretty close with the tone of your record PRE mastering. like how far off are you? any mp3s? I'm still tracking and realistically will p...

Tape Saturation Plug-ins

Hello - I'm completing an album and thinking about hiring someone to send all the finished mixes to a reel to reel and then mastering from those. Anyone happy with that experience? After seeing my brother - we're both huge into later-Beatles - battle with his 8 track (it was originally "mint" but ha...

Plug-ins: Watkins Copicat / Roland Space Echo

Unfortunately I cannot afford the following gear:

Watkins Copicat
Roland Space Echo re-201

But I'd very much like to mess around with plug-ins (Pro Tools) that emulate them.
Any suggestions?

appreciate it.

That 60s Background Singers sound

Hey there - So I've been experimenting trying to emulate that beautiful dreamy sound of background singers you hear on the likes of the great Johnny Horton and Lee Hazlewood recordings (among many others). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3fZ1X9kgtM I've tried getting a group of singers together and ...
