My studio space is a metal pre-fab garage. Approximately 24'x35', 9' walls peaking to 14' or 15', built on a concrete slab. I decided to leave my space as a single large room instead of building out rooms. It's basically a metal carport with metal sides. It went up quickly, but I still had to do so...

I have always been impressed with this community and have found a variety of engineers and musicians to follow based on their extensive experience, knowledge base, and willingness to help anyone who comes looking for information. The best advice I can give is don't talk shit and know that the people...

Steve Albini letter to Nirvana with outline to make In Utero
Quick search of Tape Op posts did not contain this: http://www.thatericalper.com/2013/09/26/before-steve-albini-produced-nirvanas-in-utero-he-wrote-them-this-awesome-letter/ As I read his letter I saw dozens of bits and pieces of wisdom I have learned from Tape Op community - in perspective, techniq...

Discussion on Lowery, "Low," Pandora & $16.89
The original article has been referenced/posted several times in various places (I came across a blurb in The Week) - can be found here: http://thetrichordist.com/2013/06/24/my-song-got-played-on-pandora-1-million-times-and-all-i-got-was-16-89-less-than-what-i-make-from-a-single-t-shirt-sale/ I unde...

Visual art? Film? Paintings? Photography? Sculpture? Pretty much all of the above? None close to music, for me. but I have to imagine it would be easier to remain a part of society being deaf rather than blind. If that is your overriding criteria and starting/ending point. I was looking more for di...

Would you rather lose sight or hearing? Why?
I'd read a recent article concerning choosing between the two, if the choice had to be made. I've been ill on the couch and so unable and unwilling to find the original article for reference and inclusion here, but curious about the Tape Op community. The numbers skewed heavily towards the choice of...

Dislike of HFR film/HD TV corresponds to vinyl preference??
Obviously the tube TV in living room from 1996 contributes - I have not grown accustomed to digital HD images as new sets have become prevalent. Watching The Hobbit in HFR was horrid, constantly denying the fantasy world with a look of the later Twilight Zone episodes that were recorded on VHS to sa...

I get them worst during mindless repetitive tasks. Same here - tedium brings them out in me - and would be really severe when I was a child. Read research showing most is song based, lyrics, but only 7% or so are instrumental. Heavy chemical use or exhaustion helps turn environmental/ambient sounds...
