I think it can also influence the sound of a mic too. Close to low frequency sound sources, air gets moved around in addition to what is caused by the sound waves alone. Picture ripples in a bathtub comared to sloshing around the whole tub. I'm guessing sensitivity to this low frequency air motion i...

Try using a very slow compressor. Attack at 100 to 200 ms, release at 500 ms or more. If the compressor (or compressor plugin) has a side chain filter, then try raising the HPF untill it sounds best. This tends to turn down washy cymbals while leaving the punch from the rest of the kit intact. I hea...

Last year we released an album and did both CD and vinyl for it. If your hoping to sell vinyl online keep in mind the shipping (proper boxes and postage) costs a lot, almost $10 per record. Say you press 300 records (minimum order for many plants), it will cost about $2800, so you need to be collect...

Something I read on here not too long ago that has worked really well for me when trying to turn down cymbals in a fairly natural sounding way is to: ?use a super slow compressor for this. you can effectively turn down anything with longer duration that 150 Ms by setting the attack at , um, well, 15...

... seems to say that the inverse-square law somehow works differently in a highly reverberant space then it might in a dead room. That's not true. You?re right about that, and my first post isn't. Direct sound should follow inverse square regardless of the room. In any case it seems a bit of theor...

I have a TC firewire interface, and now that the software works I think it's fantastic. For the year I had it before the drivers were rhobust enought to use (audio dropouts, freezing, ect.) it was a major headache, and I definitly regretted going with a product that had unproven softare behind it. O...

bump! I'm back at it again. In the past few months have shielded the plastic front and back panels with conductive copper tape, hopefully making the enclosure a "continuous" chassis. I only have pin 1's connected to the chassis. Both with and without the chassis lug connected to the power supply 0V ...

Glad you like the amp Harry, news of your M600 has definitely rekindled an itch update my setup! Calaverasgrandes, to each their own I suppose, but it?s a bit of a stretch to call the M600 terrible. Personally that midrange ?grunt? of GK/Peavy is exactly what irks me with most cheaper amps. I've alw...

Joe and Andy, thanks for the help so far. I've been unable to work on this for a few weeks but just took another crack at it using your suggestions. I've also done some reading on star grounding schemes and pin 1 compliance. My current wiring is: - 0 V from power supply to chassis lug - 0 V from pow...
