Re: No fancy tube mics - am I missing out?

I record a fairly wide variety of types of music (folky acoustic projects, punk, metal, indie rock, voiceovers, 60s garage-inspired bands, gypsy rock, the list goes on). I have a decent sized mic collection and have a handful of fancy tube mics (U67, Flea 47, vintage U87, Telefunken AR51) as well as...

Re: De-harshing distorted guitars

I had decent luck with a de-esser for this recently. For the same reason it sometimes works to subdue harsh cymbals, it's essentially dynamic EQ right? Find your frequency or frequencies with a parametric, then once you've found them, de-ess those.

SOLD BAE 1073MPF Single Channel (with or without power supply)

Single channel 1073MPF (with high pass filter). Racked up since I've had it, same mint condition as when it came to me new from Vintage King. My favorite preamp - I'm only selling it for money toward the two channel version, I don't have the rack space free for another single channel unit. Looking f...

I haven't worked on a Trident but I'm doing some planning for the future and this board is the main option for a new board that's caught my eye. I'd definitely like to hear from anyone else who has worked on one.

FS: Audio Technica AT4050 + Shockmount

http://i.imgur.com/4dfrSj8.jpg Selling my Audio Technica AT-4050. Bought it used a number of years ago, and while I love it, I need to cover some amp maintenance and need some money to help with that. It's in used cosmetic condition, but it's been used carefully and lovingly since it's been in my h...

Like others have mentioned, 421s on toms are great. I always had trouble getting tom sounds I was happy with until I got mine. You may find people mentioning that cymbal bleed in them isn't always the prettiest, but even in extreme cases where I've had to "strip silence" out the the bleed, it leaves...

Totally agree with A.David.MacKinnon and losthighway on both points they make. I have some sessions where I really feel like things are sounding incredible, things fit right into place. I have other sessions where I feel more like I'm on autopilot a bit, and it's not quite impacting me as much. I fi...

Loving the Strymon El Capistan that showed up for me this holiday season... http://photos-h.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xfa1/t51.2885-15/10848260_1380502485583855_1392306446_n.jpg Those things are great. I was in a band with someone until recently who had one on his pedal board, but with the music ...

David Eugene Edwards in the awesome bands 16 Horsepower and now Wovenhand had what looks sometimes like an old Shure Elvis mic (55?) and others (old EV's?) that seemed to go into an amp that he used about every other song to cool effect. No idear how they did it, but the 16HP DVD is worthy and ther...

I'm a big fan of stuff like this - foley/field sounds used in music. My example/shameless plug is definitely a lot more subtle than a lot of the great stuff here where it's really focused, but fits nonetheless, especially with regards to being in the unusual position to be trying multiple takes and ...

I wanted something small that was like the Microkorg but more for pianos/organs than for synths - got the Microstation. The thing's great, and lets you program things on the computer for it if you want. It's definitely small, perfect for gigging (which is what I originally got it for) but I do use i...
