Question: If I have, let's say, a single vocal track. It's the only thing I have recorded. There is nothing to cancel, etc. If I flip the phase, will it change the sound of the individual track? I understand that phase flipping can affect the way a track cancels/interacts with other signals, but wh...

Re: Humidity vs Gear
I was looking into getting a swamp/evaporative cooler for the studio. If you're not familiar, its like a humidifier that cools the room by 10 or so degrees, which could be enough to save the guitars. However, I'm wondering if I were to do that, humidify the studio so it was super high humidity in t...

Re: mp3 for mastering in a pinch??
I already know the answer to this..But is it feasible at all? I'm in a bind and hope someone chimes in and says," sure, I do it all the time" It's time for mastering and 2 mixes of the 8 songs to be released have gone missing.. my fault. anyway, thanks for any input If that's what you have.. go for...

You're comparing unmastered mixes to mastered mixes. Apples and oranges. Just make your mix sound good and let the mastering engineer worry about making it loud. I agree. It's best not to worry about your final level at all during the mix stage. Imho it is far better to get the song mixed to your s...

Re: Mixing/mastering hip hop tracks for the road
We've mixed a hip hop record, it's already been mastered and released, and now the artist is figuring out his tour and live setup. We weren't sure what that was gonna look like back when we were mixing, so we just saved the recall on the SSL, and can pull it up whenever. But he's hoping to rattle t...

Unless you have at track record that proceeds you, having someone hear a sample of your work is not out of the ordinary. It's also common for any business to get a financial commitment (50%) deposit before any work would begin. Seems there was a communication break down in that there was no deposit ...

Don't forget to have good communication with the ME and the band. Explain to the band what making a loud record will do to the mixes and explain to the ME that you and the artist have had the discussion and that a "Loud commercial Bar coded radio ready clueless lemmings type record" is NOT what you...

does anyone have any mix recommendations to help preserve lively, present drums when they go to mastering? I've just had a lot of results lately where the mastering results are so drastically different than my mix in the drum department, it almost feels like a remix. This is mainly on modern, loud ...

Re: When is best to convert mixes to 16/44.1 in DIY masterin
For he last couple of mastering jobs I have done all my processing of the mixes in pro tools at the original 24/44.1 sample rate then shift-apple-k export files as interleaved 24bit wavs. Is this the best/most efficient way to do things or would I be better off importing the 24 bit mixes into a new...

isn't the sm91 the one you just lay inside the drum? Yes. I think they are the pzm's which can be laid on a pad or flat surface. I did a few albums with Mike Mangini who had these permanently installed in his kicks. I remember they were attacky sounding...hence the sub kicks... I think I blended th...

It seems to follow that pattern in the photo world, ... I edit daily in CS & the clients just expect the skills gratis....... Don't think I will tend to over achieve in that area with the DAW. I do like the automated faders for the 48 channels ( could not mix without ) Good to see you're coming aro...
