DI box or Mic Pre for home recording?
I need something to boost/regulate a signal between the instrument (vox, guitar, bass, etc.) and my 1/8" pc sound input jack. I do wish I had the ca$h to buy an API or some great vintage tube mic pre, but I don't. I have like 200-300 bucks to accomplish this. I know there are a ton of manufacturers ...

I'll be hard disk recording. I am starting to invest in outboard gear and I'm unemployed currently (if you know what i mean$).
Can anyone recommend a tube mic pre (at least 2 chnls) under $300 or so?
