Re: Is this stupid..... like a fox?

well i had that problem exactly, with AKG d690's. too many of them on one session. you really learn to hate the sound of that mic. i think having a track recorded all with only one mic, would definitely showcase the weaknesses of the mic. frequency build-ups, resonances, that sort of thing. the soun...

Re: Records that SOUND HORRIBLE because they are so LOOOUUUD

yeah so what about something mastered TERRIBLY LOUD that sounds good because of it? i'm thinking of the Cody ChesnuTT album "The Headphone Masterpiece"

it sounds like it was mastered using the autoleveling amplifier in an old battery powered Panasonic cassette recorder. and it rocks that way.

Re: Anybody ever record a BEATBOXER y'all!?!?!?

you could run the 58 to a quality bass amp and then mic that, maybe in combo with the direct signal from the 58, and the distant/throat mic's not a bad idea. if you're recording digital and you don't have the guy for long, i might try all three if you have the discipline to only use 1 in the final m...

Duran Duran / Come Undone

Recently I've developed a facination with this song, founded upon a long-standing appreciation of it. The depth and size of the mix, and layers and layers of instrumentation hiding withing it, yet it doesn't sound busy at all. I don't know a thing about the production of it - and there's not much to...

Re: calling T-Racks users?

t-racks is awesome. its like a total outboard ninja. you can use it to make stuff sound so bad! i've been getting into extremely stylized mastering lately (something like the new cody chestnutt cd), where you can hear the limiter pulling back after a cough or horn line. this has been good for the ki...

Re: Auto tune......

steve albini, at the first tape op con, made me laugh by likening the sound of autotune to stephen hawking... can anyone give examples of known (inaudible) uses of autotune... i guess you'd have to have inside information on the session. i just don't believe that even subtle use of it is inaudible.....

Re: Tips on getting Boy Band style vocals... no, I'm not kid

i have had good luck getting this sort of sound using the waves C4 multiband compressor, with a lot of gain and high ratios in the upper bands, and a little lower ratio in the mid band, for expression.

if you have that plugin, you should try it

Re: Compessor Plug-ins, any preferences?

SuperCamel Phat is what you want. its like $30, and goes on almost all my mixes. great on bass guitar, to get the gritty balls to stand out. also good on the drum buss. maybe a little harsh for vocals. a definate must on any drums built from samples. i also like the digitalfishphones stuff, and it c...

Re: Pleasure Forever - Alter

i gotta do some posting, get that 'audio school' off from beside my name... as to the drum sounds. i happened by when pleasure forever was doing that album, and i saw a few of the drum setups. not your typical stuff. drums raised up on platforms... mics from across the room... it looked like they we...

autotune or vocoder?

auto tune is ok, but what if i really want to fuck with my voice? i've neer used a vocoder before... how do they work? i think there's a signal to be messed with, and a control signal... ummm. i'm really in the dark about this. i want to do wierd stuff to vocals, something like the new madonna album...
