here's the deal, i had someone come here and look at it. they ran some tape and there's a lot of wow. they said it was a really nice machine aside from that. could be the pinch roller tension or a dirty tape path or could be something a little more serious like the servo card. if i fix it i'm probab...

WTB:1 reel used 1/2" tape

I still have an otari mx5050 8 track i'm trying to sell and had someone come over today and test it out. i never ran tape through it and it has an unacceptable amount of flutter. like a lot. going to do some work on it, pinch roller, capstan, lubrication, etc... but i need to know if what i'm doing ...

Otari MX5050

i've put this off but i figure i'm not doing anything with this. otari mx5050 1/2" tape deck. this is the model which is two separate pieces. bottom with all the VU and knobs and the top with the actual reels and tape heads. purchased this from some indie rockers who did some stuff with it 3 or 4 ye...

Brian, Thanks for your reply. Any reference I found to tube radios in cars mentioned tubes that ran off very low B+ supplies. And truthfully, I have no point of reference in the matter. I've fixed guitar amps but those are a whole different beast. I don't have any schematics for the radio in the sho...

A bit OT: stereo audio amp with a 6v supply??

it's been a while since i've been on here. imagine that, none of my stuff has broken in that long! i'm sorry if i'm stretching the rules too much but this board has always been helpful to me. my "new" car runs on a 6v battery and has a genuine tube powered mono radio. instead of butchering the dash ...

Free stuff.

I need some room. Here's what I'd like gone and maybe someone would like it. CD duplication tower. Looks like a PC tower, think it has 7 CD burners in it. Was pulled out of a school working and has just been sitting around. I really don't know anymore about it. Combo amps, both are busted but I know...

Could anyone use some combo amp enclosures for a project?

I have two broken combo's that are just taking up space. Speakers in both are still ok. One is a tweed knock off solid state washburn 1x8. It was my first amp. The other is a marshall valvestate. The face plate is ripped off and it's just baremetal now. Has a g1275 in it i believe. I suppose if you ...

ahh, the problem lies in that currently i'm a full time fine arts student concentrating in printmaking. so as of now this, along with the car stuff, is only really a weekend thing. i can dedicate all my time to it. i just feel like sometimes i'm getting no where and i think back to the 40's where th...

yanking the reverb out of a stereo receiver

i suppose i'm in the same boat as the person with the peavey they're ripping apart, but unlike him, i don't have the accutronics site with all it's info. this is an old pioneer stereo receiver with the most messed up sounding reverb in it. i must have it. but before i go ripping into it, should i ta...

Brian,
Would you mind posting a link to a Oscillator kit you'd recommend. A while back i got a mx5050, one of the old ones that comes in two parts, and shortly after I got a sampler/sequencer and got distracted so it's just been sitting. This thread has inspired me to get it going.

Scott Walker - The Drift

I haven't seen any mention of this yet. I was wondering if anyone else had it and what they thought of it. I think it's brilliant. So sparse yet extremely full sounding at times. Some interesting ideas for sounds. I saw an interview with him and it shows a clip of him micing a large slab of bacon an...
