I just picked up Sonic Reality's new Infinite Player JB(John Blackwell) Session Multitrack Sonr Drum Kit (hear clips here ) and it sounds incredibly dynamic and real with full control over mic mixing. I also have DKFH2, several SONiVOX libraries, EMU's Protean Drums, and a ton of one off samples and...

Thanks Will! I forwarded your email to John, as he rarely comes here, so that he'll know people like his layout! When I speak to web designers looking for creative layout ideas, I always suggest Tape Op regardless of if they're into recording. I think it rivals many "artistic" publications and is f...

I don't know DSP coding, but at the grainular level thay have to leverage the audio drivers of the OS. However, their mixing/summing engines are unique and I would think applying effects across the master bus, such as a compressor, would likely sound different across different DAWs. I thought Cubase...

I think the way each app interprets audio is probably slightly different especially when processing effects. Though with the standaization of VST across so many DAWs that may not be much of a factor anymore. Preamps, convertors, mics, source, etc have far more affect. I experimented with Cubase and ...

That's a direct ....... very much. The link I half-quoted using the same means you see above in my current post (delete the middle part of a long post) is one of approximately sixty-nine links in your post to your website which you understandably want people to read. So forgive me if I misread your...

Well, etc. etc. ue%2010/GT10_FUNK.mp3 So, basically what you are saying is "come to my website" and "click on some links" That's a direct link to an mp3 hosted on my site, not a link to any page on my site. Clicking it will open your default MP3 player without any ads served from my site. While I d...

My super-duper cheapy demos...
I posted some of the first "serious" recordings I've done on an archival MySpace page for my old band, Floodwaters. We were dirt poor and couldn't afford to go to a studio so we made due with what we had. All the drum tracks were recorded with a Samson bass drum mic on the bass drum, and SM57 on the...

Well, it depends by what you really mean when you say guitar synth. If you're looking for pianos, sax, and such you have to spend some money (or get lucky...that Roland above for $100 is a steal). On the super duper cheap, there are 3 effects which you can use to get a synth like tone. An octave ped...

Though I haven't heard the 991 pencil, I didn't like the 990 much. Just a bit more expensive at $150 (or less on eBay), I like the AT2020/2021 studio pack better. Similar arrangement, 2 SDCs with one disguised as a side address LDC. Nice crisp resonse and tight low end. Great on acoustic, good on vo...

Long Time Lurker, First Post and a Big Thank You!
I've been a subscriber to Tape Op for almost two years now and anxiously await every new issue. Being frugal minded and always searching for affordable solutions to problems, I love finding the occasional review that seems aimed directly at me. It's usually not a new product or anything fancy. Simpl...
