I've worked with a HRD that was made in Mexico. It had no noise issues to speak of, and after some simple mods + Celestion V30 speaker upgrade sounded pretty bangin'. You can pick these up all day long in your price range. What you are describing sounds like it might be a bad grounding scheme commo...

these MIM fender amps - bad for recording?

Bought a new Fender Blues junior that's very buzzy without any instruments plugged in and all knobs at zero. Turning knobs up has no effect on the buzz. Changed rooms and ran through a nice furman conditioner to no avail. Took it back to the store and exchanged it for another only to have the same e...

mic/preamp choice to beef up breathy vocals

My singing voice is in the line of Siobahn De Mare from the UK band Mono. It tends not to cut through so well on the higher register. I'm working on my technique but also I'd like to have a mic that's less sibilant and would be able to add a little beef on the mids. My current set up: AT-ATM33a (che...

bypass Firepod with outboard mic-pre/AD combo-how to set up?

Is it possible to bypass the Firepod's preamps and A/D converter by using something like the UA 4-710d? The firepod has one S/PDIF I/O. But on the UA 4-710d, the output choices are: 4-XLRs one WC I/O two ADAT out one AES/EBU (DB-25) Which one do I use to connect to the Firepod? And how? Would I be a...

Rok Box MC5x-worthy or not?

I've been trying to figure out a DAW system to get. It seems like the easiest way to do this, is to get a Rok Box Mc5x. I'd love to hear some input from people that have owned it and/or used it...Is it worthy of $1,400? Sure I can go DIY...Except that I've never built one before, and I spent the who...

Go to Pacific Solutions and tell them what you have and what you need. I've had many people thank me for sending them there. They've screwed up a couple things here and there, but they were honest and straight-forward about making things right in the end. $1200 will buy you a hell of a lot of Windo...

the best desktop PC that's under $1200

My current DAW: a 2006 Acer Aspire T135 (desktop, xp home, sempron 3100+, 1.8GHz, with add-on RAM and graphic as well as firewire), Cubase LE, and a firepod. I'm hoping to upgrade to a duo-core CPU, possibly get a quiet HD that's 7200RPM at the least, windows 7 , and lots of RAM. In that case, would ...

A friend of mine makes a particularly nice preamp. He builds them right here in the USA. Don't be shy, give him a call. www.audiotechnologies.com. I was going to recommend that one. It's a totally great pre and kind of a dark horse. Not many people know about them. His compressor is totally fantast...

Can anyone recommend a made-in-usa mic-pre?

I've been using Firepod over the years. Thought it might be good to add a solid tube mic-pre before the firepod... but not sure if it's doable... Is there a good us/europe-made product? Please share your thoughts! Thanx.

can i convert 16bit file to 24 bit

i realized some of my recent projects were recorded in 16 bit. I have the options of converting all the files to 24bit, or record them all over again in 24 bit. Obviously, converting is less work for me. But does it make sense to convert a 16bit file up to 24 bit? how does it affect the sound(vs. re...
