I have FINALLY gotten back in the studio with my hands on the board. I've been recording at the Seaside Lounge in Park Slope. Which is a whole new world for me after recording in my own DIY setup's for years. Everything seems so easy now. For the super 70's/80's tight punchy drum sound I've gone wit...

Of course there are the social media sites for discussions about this stuff but I was curious how some Tape Op folks may feel (or not feel for that matter). I've spent a ton of time at the protest (employed & very busy too). I make may way there when I can. I think most of the people sleeping over n...

Occupy Wall Street

How do you guys feel about what's going on?! I'd like to hear what you guys have to say before I voice my own opinion; however, I am going to post a couple things I've come across this morning that I feel have important messages. Here's a great article by the Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/10...

I'm just gonna throw a couple on here cause immediately a giant list comes to mind haha. Teenage Cool Kids - Denton After Sunset lp - Don't let the band name fool you, they're not teenage kids and they're not cool. Self recorded a year and a half ago and self released by the band as of yesterday. Yo...

If you want to get the Unknown sound just record on an 8 track and push the shit out of the levels. Then take it to a decent studio for a day or two and mix it through some nice gear. The key is having good songs though.

I feel like you're getting the style mixed up with the fidelity. Not that the style is even 60's but it doesn't really sound all that 60's grit to me. For the Unknown stuff that is a pretty easy sound to get. Just dirty recordings that have been mixed very well. There's tons of stuff that sounds lik...

Oh man there is some really hilarious stuff on mine. Apparently in the early 2000's I was making terrible hip-hop records without even realizing it. I'm not really very concerned with being credited on a random website. Everything I've done has been put onto vinyl and my name is right there on the a...

Thanks, I appreciate it. Does the bass sound too thin? Its only DI but I tried my best to get a good, full DI sound. I'd really like to re-amp it because live I play thru a fulltone bass drive with the overdrive dimed out and thats not the case with only DI... to my ears it's just too clean! I've b...

Awesome! Recording sounds sweet. Vocals are fine. Nice and even with the mix like a punk record should be. The only thing I would recommend is turning up the kick drum. I can't really hear it at all. It's consistently low on all the tracks. It's still totally fine, but it could sound cool with it lo...

That article is full of generalizations. I taught pre-school and worked with an after-school program for three years. To straight up say that boy's are more restless than girls is ridiculous. Every single child is different. What a crock. I'm not going to waste my time pointing out the rest of the b...

I only read your initial post and I skimmed over the responses but I wanted to throw out my opinion because for the last month I've been looking at studio's all over NYC trying to find the right place to make my next record. Yes, the equipment list is crucial and it's the first thing I look at. In a...
