Re: Missouri... Home of the Bigots
I have examples of the others if you'd like. PS I dont write stuff if I dont have concrete examples to back them up. ask littlebrothersclothes. Oh, please. You quoted a lot of single-source statistics, misrepresented a bunch of data (i.e. out-of-wedlock birthrates in the more-enlightened parts of E...

Re: Missouri... Home of the Bigots
Im really not interested in startin no fight, but the other side of the coin is this.... I am saying that whoever people want to spend there lives with (as long as they are of age) is none of my bussiness. Yes. But this issue has far more impact on everyone than just the concept of who people spend...

Hmmm ... I saw their first out-of-Ohio show (CBGB in summer 91? 92? with six other mostly-Ohio bands), but I don't think I'll make it to their last, oh well ...

Re: how can i build my own 10 db for a mic?
Hmmm ... my Sony Minidisc recorder has a menu option to set the input level (although it's somewhat of a pain in the ass, I've gotten used to doing it on-the-fly in-the-dark). I always have to turn it down about six clicks when recording rehearsals or live bands to prevent clipping.

Re: Green Day confusion
I was doing a college radio show at the time they were still on Lookout! (Kerplunk-era), and it was obvious that they were going to be huge, because they were (by far) the number-one requested band by adolescent females. (Number-one by adolescent males: Slayer, dude!)

Sam Adato's? (Usually the first stop for anything drum-related in SF, especially - but not exclusively - if you're in an 80s-style hair metal band.)

Re: the way people throw around EQ suggestions...
you must always dial in 10 at 10 like Alan Parsons.... In all seriousness, I thought it was really interesting to read this because of the specific application that he used the eq setting for: ribbon mics (4038's) as drum overheads. That would seem to be a novel way of taming cymbal bashers, perhap...

I went about 3 or 4 issues without receiving anything, and then the latest one showed up a couple weeks ago. Go figure ...

Is it live, or is it ... ?
I find it interesting that Thin Lizzy's Live And Dangerous was recently voted best-ever live album in this UK magazine poll: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3526300.stm ... since we Tape Op readers know (from the Tony Visconti interview) that the majority of the album was recorded in ...

Re: Cheap Organ?
Possibly an old Yamaha from the SK- or YC- series? The SK's ("Symphonic Keyboard") include "string" and "synth" sounds in addition to the (equally) cheesy organ sound you're looking for, while the YC's are straight combo organs (some of which have pretty weird/unique features). They all tend to have...

Yay! Mine came yesterday, after not having received the last 3 or 4 issues (frankly, I'd given up). If it's because someone saw me complain about it in one of these threads, "THANK YOU!!!" whoever you are.

Another vote for old Fenders - I used a blackface Bandmaster with my violin rig for several years and was always quite happy with it.

Re: Best new group you've found or been turned on to lately.
Chrome are absolutely the shit (been a huge fan for about 20 years), at least the 77-83 material with Helios Creed still in the band. If you can find the 3-CD compilation on Cleopatra, that has 90% of their best stuff. Highly recommended to those into electronic rock acid industrial freakouts.

Re: annoying cliches
I can't believe that with all the people in bands, no one has mentioned:
"take it to the next level".
Unfortunately, referring to employees as "resources" is nothing new and certainly widespread (most companies have had "human resources" departments for ages).
