The one time I recorded a Mellotron (real), it was, indeed, through a tube direct box (some 70s German thing, I think). I was quite pleased with the results.

Hmmm ... my Sony Minidisc recorder has a menu option to set the input level (although it's somewhat of a pain in the ass, I've gotten used to doing it on-the-fly in-the-dark). I always have to turn it down about six clicks when recording rehearsals or live bands to prevent clipping.

Chrome are absolutely the shit (been a huge fan for about 20 years), at least the 77-83 material with Helios Creed still in the band. If you can find the 3-CD compilation on Cleopatra, that has 90% of their best stuff. Highly recommended to those into electronic rock acid industrial freakouts.
