Another point to consider is that many times people will be listening to your record in a less than ideal environment. If they've got the speakers too close together for whatever reason, or listen from across the room much of the mix might collapse to mono and your organ is gone! I make a point to c...

Sounds really great, Sean! I especially loved the fluffy sounding bass and the vox phase effect!

Groover, sorry for the late reply. Sadly, it's not a kit - you'll need to source the parts from the BOM. Could be worse though and if you're already committing the time to building the thing it won't really set you back too much...

If you're not shy about DIY, check out the G SSL Clone from Gyraf (http://www.gyraf.dk/gy_pd/ssl/ssl.htm). Takes a day or two to build but will probably blow away most other in that price range. It's the same compressor that's in our Audient console and it sounds great on mixes.

Is there a specific drum machine that you're using? Have you tried running it through some effects processors? Lots of guitar pedals work really well for fattening up drum machines, like the ProCo Rat, Hot Tubes, Tube Screamer and other distortion boxes, but even a cool analog delay with a very shor...

Not sure if you're alone, jrdamien, but Brothers was probably my favorite album from last year. I'd always liked the Black Keys, but only from hearing songs here and there, but Brothers absolutely blew me away. If "Unknown Brother" and "Sinister Kid" are your definition of going pop, then I wish mor...

I'll second the Digitech 300. I did have some feedback problems early on at gigs, but the gate does help tremendously. There are a few different delay sounds in the bank too, so you can pick the one that best suits you.

Right. That or creating another stereo bus for the compressed drums. This gives you the chance to create a separate mix to send to your compressor (for instance, maybe you're pretty happy with the kick sound and level in the original track, and don't see the need to send as much or any to compressor...

You sure can duplicate, but it's less than ideal as it will be putting unnecessary stress on your system. Obviously not much of an issue if it's only one or two tracks, but if you're wanting to dial in varying levels of parallel processing on an entire drum kit, etc you could run into problems.

KSM 44 are great, but also check out the Audio Technica 4033. Even new you can afford one of these and they're great for acoustic guitar and vox.
