For some reason I have very little imagination when it come to this sort of thing :) The Frost king products aren't very wide, like 1/2 inch as I recall. A plug framed with 2x4s would be at least 3 1/2 inches and I was thinking I it would be nice to put the drywall on top and wrap a frame around the...

If I built a little frame and attached drywall/plywood to it, what sort of foam or padding would I use around it to prevent damage to the drywall on the inside of the window?

Keep it simple. You need mass primarily. That's cherap drywall and plywood. Secondary is sealing the plug / panel Third would be to damp The foams etc aren't going to help with anything except lighten your wallet I think this foam has some mass, 1 lbs per square foot. It is expensive, but I liked t...

Norton, Thanks once again for all the great info! That's a great tip on the joists. I'll be sure to mark the walls where the joists are so its clear once the first layer is up where they are. I've been very happy with at the Green Glue stuff I've used. I chose the whisper clips based on the ease of ...

Hanging drywall from hat channel on the ceiling

I'm about to hang my first sheet of 1/2 inch drywall on the ceiling against 25 gauge hat channel held in place with Green Glue company whisper clips (held in with 2 1/2 inch drywall screws). The channels are 24 inches apart on center, and I'll be using regular drywall screws, fine threaded 1 1/4 inc...

Does anyone have an online source for Zero International?

I'm using the Rod Gervais book which recommends Zero's products. I've been looking around but I have yet to find an online site that carries Zero's magnetic seals.

Thanks!

Thanks! That's pretty thin. I guess that being the case the first wall should be very flat. Do people typically use tape and mud, or just mud the cracks?

I didn't take picture of the intermediate steps. After the acoustic caulk, I muded and taped just like you would any wall. I guess my description made it sound like I painted over the caulk :) There actually weren't many places where the gap was bigger than 1/4 inch.

Some pictures

Here is a picture of the wall with acoustic caulk in the too-big gaps, and around the duct. There are also some wood slats I made where the drywall met the center beam in the basement, though its hard to make out in the picture. In places where the gap was smaller (it wasn't uniform along the length...
