Technical Engineering Assistance needed
I have few projects I would like to have completed for my facility. One project requires the research and fabrication of an analog tape machine transport control using a RS422 (SONY 9 Pin) transceiver circuit. Another project involves the reverse engineering of an analog multi channel processing dev...

Product Design Fishing Expedition
I am thinking about bringing a hardware based Stereo Analog Tape Simulator to market. The current design has these selectable feature sets; 1. Machine Type (Ampex, MCI, Scully and Studer) 2. Operating Levels (+3,+5,+6,+9) 3. Tape Speeds (15ips, 30ips) 4. Equalization (NAB, CCIR, AES) Tweak feature w...

48 vdc supply
The Scum is correct on the 48vdc current draw needs for Phantom Power. 1 amp out would be "overkill". I am not in total agreement with using the fixed voltage 78xx/79xx regulators. My experience has been that the positive output ones come up just allitle short of thier advertised voltage value. The ...

PSU build
You are probably looking at building 3 supplies. One for the bipolar(+/- 15 to 18vdc adjustable) one for the +48vdc and a third to create the 12vdc and 5vdc. There is some linear PSU voodoo about using separate rectifier diodes to make a full wave bridges for audio supplies. A FWB package for the 12...

Sticky Shed
If the tape is leaving heavy oxide deposits on the heads and transport DO NOT continue to play it on the machine. In addition to damaging the tape you could cause a "head clog" in the gap(s) of your record and play heads. This would severly affect the machines record and playback response. It could ...
