I agree with those that encourage you to just get a relatively inexpensive board and start rocking it. Embrace the limitations and learn the particular sonics. Then as time goes on keep your eyes peeled for something better but don't be in a hurry at that point. I'm using a Ramsa WRS-4424 attached t...

I use a 2 mic setup using the modded NT1 as overhead and a Peavey 520i for bass drum. I can say that the modded NT1 is a completely different mic than stock. No real sonic similarity before/after. I don't have a ton of mics, but with the modded NT1 I also have a Groove Tubes MD1, a Cascade FatHead a...

Mic ID

Curious what kind of mic is being used here:

It seems like the early 70s Soul Train used this mic for just about everything except drum overhead.

It's digital but doesn't sound it: the Boss Space Echo (RE20 I think).
I love that pedal. It'll do the spaceship sound via expression pedal or automatically by just holding down one button with your foot.

Rondo Music has low priced import instruments of a huge variety. I have not used a 12 string from there, but I have a P-J bass that is decent and very useable for the studio (after proper strings and setup of course).

If you want drums panned audience perspective you better pan the whole kit mono up the center. I've never seen a concert where I sat so close to the drums that panning of them was perceptible - you'd have to stand in front of the kit!

Conceptually 2 female jacks wired through the wall is exactly the same as having a true bypass effects pedal in the signal chain. Seems like it should be fine since most people use pedals all the time.
True though that long cable runs should be avoided, but that is obvious.

For vintage sound you must use flatwound strings. Round wound bass strings didn't get common till 70s and 80s. That will be the single best thing you can change if the current strings are not flat wound (if you want vintage sound). Brand: I don't have strong feelings about the brand and or model. Go...

Freq. ID for membrane bass traps

Long story short I ended up acquiring a bunch of home-made acoustic treatment but the maker of such treatment was not the seller, and the seller did not know anything about the specs. The rigid fiberglass panels are easy enough to look at and know about, but there are 2 huge, heavy, what look to be ...

If you're considering modern-manufactured cabinets, do not make any assumptions correlating tone and speaker size. There have been lots of advances in speaker manufacturing/design, especially for bass cabs. For older designs, the size/tone correlations (myths?) are a bit more "established", but blan...
