I recently bought a Saffire Pro 40 and have been satisfied with it.
Good sounding preamps and tons of connectivity options.

The Mix Control software can be a bit dense at times, but once you get it working its fine. Don't let that be the only reason not to buy one.

This is great. There seems to be quite an intense drum discussion in the comments.
I really like questlove's playing style. It has this almost sloppy feel to it, but it grooves so hard.

You might want to consider some kind of acoustic treatments in your "studio". Even if its just hanging some curtains or blankets to absorb some of the outside sound. Then I think you'll have a lot more options for mics, and can probably get more usable results from sensitive/condenser mics. OR if yo...

I'm interested to see how much off the Keith Richards documentary will be intelligible. Might just be me, but I can't understand these old british dudes.

I understand that they wanted to censor out all those naughty words, but there was an excessively long silence every time. I think they muted a solid 2 seconds before the expletives even happened, just to be safe.

I have the same moral dilemma everytime i use Autotune. I would obviously prefer that whatever sound you hear on the record is real...but sometimes you have to just give the client what they want(assuming they ever know what they want). So instead of that Just make their drums sound awesome and eith...

If the output track is clipping, but the input of your recording track isnt, you must have some kind of effects running that are boosting the level after being recorded. Or you have several tracks playing back already, and the new one one you are recording is pushing the output to clip (but that ind...

The apt complex i live near was cleaning out their storage space and i got the chance to dig through it before everything hit the curb.

I ended with a Casio CZ101 Synth. Which was pretty sweet, but I ended up selling for $200. Good deal for everyone.

Where would you put the stereo pair?
Basically the mics are acting as your ears, so put them wherever you would stand/sit in the room to listen to the band.

If it sounds good in the room then it will sound good in your recording (maybe). haha

When in doubt, I would just keep it super simple. If you have any kind of stereo pair you could set up as mains, that would be essential. Then if you feel like you need more, you could spot mic particular sections but I would probably rely on the main pair as much as possible.
