By pass the board?
I've been considering bypassing my board (Audioarts Wheatstone) and getting a bunch more pre's and going strait into my 16 track 1" Tape Machine. Anybody do that around here? I'm thinking of getting 8 (6-Channels of OSA, 2-Brent Averill API) in a lunchbox. 2 Brent A. 1272 2 Great River 12NV-ME And j...

Re: josephson c42mp- anyone heard these??
Got from Mercenary, I actually got those and a pair of KM-184''s at the same time and it just wasn't even a contest the c42 kicked ass. I love them as over heads they are my first choice. They are so good I end of micing the drums closer b/c they pick up everything so well (like a crappy room for ex...

Re: EV RE20 - am I lucky- ?
I have one, its one of my favorites on bass amp. Also rumor has it that it was one the mics that Albini used on Kurts vocals.. Gotta love the Albini lore...
To recap. I really like it, i've been using it to side mic my snare recently for no reason and its kicking my 57's ass..

Re: Digital Mixer advice needed ASAP
I'm no expert, I've used the d8b for a couple years and the only other digital one i've used is an 02R which i did a big record on. I love everything about the D8b except the sound. The pre's make me want to cry. The layout and functionality of the d8b is on par with a lot of the large format consol...

Re: a good mic for a loud guitar amp?
Royer 121, coles 4038.. those would be my top choice.. combined with a 421. I'd shy away from the sm57, i've gotten some good tones with a 57 but once i started using the above combo (pan hard L/R), i've never gone back. The 57 is fine with no other options but now it just sounds thin compared to th...

Re: Overhead Mics for Recording Drums?
I hate to sound like a broken record but I love my Joesphson C42 matched pair. I used to use 414 but I came to the realization that I hate them as overheads. My absoulte #1 first choice is km-84 that Klaus Heyne modded but those weren't mine, just a studio i use to work.

Re: matched pair ?
For what its worth, I tried a pair of km-184's and sent them back and picked up the Joesphson's which blew them out of the water. If at all possible buy from a place that will let you try them first and dont go w/o trying the c-42's.

Re: questions about tape/tape machines
I know some of the more expierenced people will chime on in and correct me but.. how much on average would it cost to have a 2" 24 track machine aligned (rough idea)? By a tech, figure $50/hr 3 hours. = $150 By you = whatever it cost for an MRL + tweeker + oscillator how much would it cost to replac...

Re: miking the snare shell revisited
I had a horrible expierence at a studio I was working at. The engineer mic'd the shell w/ a KM84 and all he got was hi-hat. We ended up having to re track the snare only at the end of the mixing b/c the track was unsalvageable. The drummer wasn't bad, a little heavy handed but a good drummer none th...

Re: Drum Mic kits
I'll second the e604, they are quality mics good for toms and a hell of a lot better than a 57 on snare. The propaganda says that they are suppose to be 421's in a smaller case but they aren't. That doesn't mean that they are bad mics (far from it) but that they aren't 421's..3 pack for $300 is wort...

Re: Blue Microphones?
I've used the Blue Bottle (the real one not the baby) I must say, it sounds freaking great. I did a shoot out with that, U47, U89, 149, C12 and it beat them all hands down... That's just for this vocalist but all the same it sounds great..

Re: Epi acoustic
That's so wierd.. I was looking for info about "Epi" guitars last week. My friend just bought one from a Pawn shop for $40.. For that price she got an amaising deal,it sounds really good. It doesnt sound as good as a Martin or my Seagull but price to performance she's doing fine.. My point? I think ...

Re: Hunting for an acoustic...
You could also try the pawn shops up on Main street. I got some amaising deals up there. And that one out near Mayport, my friend got a Les Paul at that place for $315. Actionville, USA. -Z PS- For the record I've got a S6, spruce top. and I've played those Larrivee (two of my friends at school had ...

Re: Hunting for an acoustic...
I'm moving to Jacksonville next week, how's that for small world. I have a Seagull which I bought in Jax (I grew up there but i've been gone for six years). I love my guitar, i spent $300 on it with case and b/c its got a real top (as oppose to a laminated one) it sounds better with age. My friend g...
