I've got a client who's interested in buying me some gear in trade for recording and mixing his next album - works in his favor since any gear I get will improve his recordings, and works in my favor because it gives me some new stuff. Anyway, I thought I'd see if anyone here has the following items...

Thanks for the continued feedback. To clear up a few issues, I have enough equipment to record a full rock band live with everything mic'd or DI'd without using anything worse than an sm58. Allen & Heath system 8 mixing console, apple logic pro, motu 828 mk2, plenty of cabling and headphones and mic...

Thanks
Thanks for the info, that's discouraging that the job market sucks there, I guess it's like that just about anywhere you go. I do have Bachelor's Degrees in Sociology and Psychology so finding a day job isn't out of the question but those are not the most thriving fields right now either. Your reply...

Minneapolis recording/music scene queries...
So...my girlfriend just got a really good job in Minneapolis which means she's going to be moving there in August. I've got a lease on my place in Oregon for the next year, but after that, if things work out, I am considering moving there to be with her. I've been trying to cultivate a recording stu...

Mic arrived!
Mics, cable, and shockmount arrived today and all look in good order. Props to William for being a very patient man and anti-props to the US Postal service for taking three weeks to deliver a money order and giving us both a real hell ride. Rock over london!

new console (well, it's old but new to me)
Just bought an Allen & Heath System 8 console in pretty good shape. Main Outs aren't receiving any signal, but it has 8 submixes and did come with a custom power supply w/ phantom power and has been modded so that the correct pins are hot on the xlr inputs, so I think it was worth the $$. 16 channel...

I did a little research on the Mackie i-series when they first started coming out, and I don't think they are capable of acting as a control interface for a DAW. Mackie provides pdf files of their owner's manuals online so you can find more info there.

That's helpful to know about the R-values, I thought that they would relate to how well their absorption coefficients, but I definitely haven't tested this in a lab. Does STC stand for Sound Transmission Coefficient? Just want to make sure I'm tracking with you on use of terms. I'm curious about how...

I hadn't thought about the air gap being created between the studs and sheetrock, I can see how that would happen if you were nailing the drywall on both sides to the same stud especially. Something that could help if you encountered such a problem would be mounting the layer of sheetrock to a secon...

The space I have has a similar situation, I don't record while another band's playing, however there will sometimes be two bands practicing at the same time in rooms next to each other. One thing that really helps to start off with is making sure the seal between the rooms is really tight, even a ha...
