Beyerdynamic mics, Tascam Patchbays, and more

some bits and pieces for sale. prices include shipping within the US, except for the Ampeg bass head. I'd prefer to not ship that, but if you insist it'll cost extra. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to post pictures so bear with me. Beyerdynamic m500 - SOLD - $200 - hypercardioid ribbon mi...

Using a pentode configured as a triode usually means connecting the screen grid (g2) directly to the plate, and the suppressor grid (g3) directly to the cathode. I have no idea if it'll be suitable in whatever circuit you're working with but that's how it's generally done.

Opinions on two-story studios

For those of you with this type of setup, I'm wondering what you like and dislike about having a studio where the control room is on a different level than the live room. I'm accustomed to them being right next to each other, so having stairs in between seems like a hassle, but I'm trying to get a f...

Topic: More capacitance for tube rectified filter caps?

tube rectifier datasheets typically list a max filter cap value, determined by the cap's current draw - pull too much and you fry the tube. a maximum value's tolerance range may put a particular example beyond what the tube can handle. this is what I thought too, but now that I'm looking at a bunch...

Re: 100% wet for hardware effects in series?

do you output the dry signal and just put it through the pedals, record and use that as your final track? for the sake of simplicity I would try this approach first. you end up with less flexibility after the fact, but hopefully that's okay. doing things separately, blending a bunch of tracks, etc,...

Long-term viability of tape-based studios?

I wanted to start this thread to get a sense, from those engineers out there still using tape, how close or far multitrack tape and tape machines are from extinction. Do you feel like a tape-based studio is something that will be tenable long into the future? Or is the outlook more bleak? I ask beca...

well, I probably won't get around to building any GOBOs until the weather is warmer (maybe I'll try to post a photo essay of the process), but I tried my M88 for scratch vocals last weekend and it was great. singer was only 3 feet away from the drums and the bleed was still manageable.
