Akai 1700?

I just inherited one of these from a friend that's moving across the country. Everything seems to be spinning like it should - but I have no tape to test it with. At bare minimum I'd like to get a reel of tape and a take up reel to fit see if it works. All the pictures of five and seven inch reels I...

I just started working at a boutique-ish guitar/bass pedal company and we use the Aoyue 936 which is apparently a clone of the Hakko 936. You can even use Hakko tips on it.

It's pretty damn fantastic. If you're looking at that Hakko - check out Aoyue for about half the price.

Don't have the 56, but I do have the 40. Felt I should chime in and say that the routing software is freaking great. Super easy to send any input to any output or any mix of inputs and daw tracks to any output... The two headphone outs are really great (super easy for recording overdubs - one headph...

Tough to say. Do you have anything else that takes 1/8" cables to see if that whole thing is passing sound? Otherwise - if you have a a small mackie mixer with RCA outputs - you can try plugging the drum machine into that and taking a RCA to 1/8" cable out from that into your computer. That may soun...

That may very well be the problem.

I would try some compression on the overheads and the guitar so you aren't working the limiter so hard to bring stuff up to decent levels.

Did you do clean install ? or just installed over your old OS ?. That's an awesome question. Snow Leopard made my 2ghz MPB run a bit zippier - but I installed it on a brand new harddrive that I put in it - so I dunno if the speed is the drive or the OS... Either way - it certainly isn't a resource ...

Don't hate the player, hate the game. That is - whoever wrote the title is trying to sensationalize it. I did this in a first year class in college. We'd split the (60+) group in to halves and each half would get a 'conductor.' Then you basically just jam by using 30 people as your instrument. Good ...

I've had sperzels on all my electrics for about seven years now. Never had a problem with 'em. Love 'em. Recommend 'em.

I took a highschool class in electronics and then two in college. I didn't think it helped me at all UNTIL i started building kits. (mostly from generalguitargadgets.com.) It's totally 'solder-by-numbers' - but if you go back and look at the actual schematic and try to follow it through from input t...

Frustrating indeed. My MBP had the same battery issue but Apple manned up and did a battery recall - I haven't had problems like that since. As far as the iWork thing goes - every highschool and college paper I ever wrote was written with the free open-source software called "Neo Office." It has nev...

I say this reasonably often. But I rolled my own with Canare cable and Nuetrik connectors about seven years ago, now - and they have not failed me once.

When it comes to "what guitar cable?" This is always my first answer.

What about getting a USB 1in2out Audio interface? I don't know who makes these or how decent they are, but that's definitely what I would try.

If you have any interest in DIY and a tiny bit of downtime - I am a huge proponent of rolling your own. It's not only a good deal cheaper - but you then have the comfort of knowing exactly what materials went into your cables. It's also the easiest way to get cables that fit your needs EXACTLY. It's...

I'm was in the same spot with my space. Cedar's right. Absorption above the drums made all the difference in the world. The panels cost me about sixty bucks to make and opened up my entire mic locker for use on the drums. Also - for what its worth - a figure 8 OH with the front at the drums and the ...
