Put the C1000 directly on a tom - not as OH - and see what happens. It's the best tom mic you have in your list. I'm not arguing, just don't think you should write off a good tool you have just because of a few negative reviews. Everyone tries to sing into those things and put them on guitar, which ...

The C1000 is excellent on toms, and the ECM is very good as OH for drums and acoustic guitar. An SM81 is trash... inside a kik edit: forgot to add that I think a very reasonable and practically free first step would be to get another ECM and set the two up in stereo configurations all over that big,...

I have an ART Tube Mp Project series mic pre/di that I've used on several bass tracks and been pretty happy. If you're using a dAW then some post compression and eq will help shape your sound. There are also the regular Tube MP's that go for cheap....they actually sound pretty good and work perfect...

I used to do it a lot. It was usually when I found myself lost in the mix. Sometimes it was because I was very close to what I wanted, but I could figure out what to do next. Sometimes it was because I had done too much and I had gone past a good mix into some dark evil mushy sounding thing. The fi...

Interesting song - I like it. Sounds like something Tim Burton would do if he were Tom York. The speakers I'm on have no good low end representation so I can't comment on that, but there's something really nasty going on up top that's making my ears hurt, like overcooked EQ somewhere or something. a...

jkretz, I don't know what kind of band you have, but I've been recording rock in basements for ten years, all the while trying to keep my wife from divorcing me. She hasn't yet, but not because of any great success I've had "soundproofing". I've done the "beefing up" thing that JWL mentioned, includ...

hostpapa.com accounts have unlimited server space, standard. There are some limitations to achieve this, but I've been using it for a few month, have transferred hundreds of GBs via FTP, and am happy as a clam.

I had the same problem the other night. I used Disc Utility to 'repair permissions', than switched the track to R in workspace and everything was fine.

Pres cover more noticeable ground than word clock/converter upgrades, imo, but I also agree with RWC that mics do, too.

I use an sm7 and 635a all the time. The 7 is fuller, and the 635 more naked and intimate. I usually prefer the 635, to be honest.

The 7 needs a good pre, and the 635 sounds great if you eat it and apply compression.

My only problem with mp3 - and digital in general - is the perception by so many that it is actually superior. That's definitely something to be bothered by. the usual digital-bashing aside, i've never met anyone who claims that mp3 is superior. I have. There's no shortage of people out there who a...

Take a look at the heavy metals that go into the construction of that thing, consider how quickly your bodily fluids will displace them and how long it will take, and then think about if it really matters whether you jam the thing down your throat or up your ass. Probably not a good idea. Having sai...
