you know, reality might not always be what you're shooting for. but i do agree about vocals. that'd be one thing, i think, that's worth it to take time and mess around with some passes. it might not seem like much when u just do it, but you might find that it helps the lead vocal sit better later on...

this is in my rack right now, and it's good, totally does it's job but i'm never excited about it. it seems kinda flat, like it's good that it's not too bright, and also like you said, it's not mushy. but it doesn't doesnt got no depth to me. i can't dive into it. i can't push against the thing cuz ...

wow, good song. great recording too. i think the levels on the vocals are perfect, if you really have qualms about it, retrack with a different mic, i think. seems like your not gonna bring much more out of those with volume or messing with eqs. really like the drum sound too, how did you mic them? ...

i just scoured my room, made sure but i tossed it out when mine broke. stupid. i don't remember all the details, & i haven't even bounced on my mkIII, but i remember the monitor section as being different and easier to use. i think it had it's own little section. also there was a third speed, for sl...

totally agree with dakota about varispeed. i record on the computer now, but tape speed effects are the one thing i still use my 4 track for. i love it. absolutely. have a mkIII now, but i really miss my old 424, sounded so much better. one thing i like to do is tape the whole song at normal speed, ...

yeah, i even looked at it more tonite, and it really looks entirely even. some of the stuff i read after you mentioned it talked about tama drums from the 80's as more likely to not have a bed cut. this one is from 2003 but still... haha. that would be funny, because i've sometimes felt like there's...

you guys are right, it's harder than i thought to find 16'' snare hoops. i saw an ad for a dw snare that size so i thought they were more common. if i was more mechanically inclined, it probably wouldnt be too hard to cut out a couple chunks of a tom rim, but.. i'm thinking maybe i'm with you on tak...

in one of my first bands, i would tape the guitar first and then slow the tape speed down for the drummers tracks. (tascam 424) this was actually because they had trouble with keeping up, but one thing i noticed was that there was a lot of things i liked more about the drums after we brought the son...

wow, thanks for that. i didn't think or know of this at all. just read a bunch though. it actually might do more harm than good for me to try to cut them. i'll start with none, and maybe make gradual adjustments. just using a file and sandpaper. happily there's not much at stake, this is for a cheap...

how did it sound?
do you have any tips on doing this at home?

i often track with a cheap boss VF-1 multifx for reverb. i like it way better than trying to mess around with reverb plugs later. maybe it's just cuz there's less twiddling around with things, you do it &your stuck with what you did. i think it actually sounds better tho. sounds way more attached to...
