Play a constant tone thru the amp and watch the mix level as you move ONE of the mics back away from the grill cloth bit by bit. When the mix level is at it's highest point, leave the mic you moved where it is and your mics are in phase! ...and you can give the thumbs up to let rip with that one-no...

Why buy an expensive summing box when you can buy an expensive mixing board? Good question, but expensive summing boxes are almost unnecessary by default. Regarding mixers - why put another 100 discrete components in your signal path when you can have just one ? As we have been discussing, the prin...

If there is only one speaker in the cab, polarity is kinda arbitrary, or at least unlikely to become an issue. Push and pull is exactly right, you can use this method with a fig 8 mic to open up some stunning recording possibilities. For this you need two cabinets opposite and equidistant from the m...

There was a test done by Digidesign when they came out with their new HD system. They made three known engineers mix ITB, and OTB, using exactly the same levels, no eq, no compression, no effects etc. In other words a dry mix replicated in both systems. Is this the test you mean ? This test, (by Di...

Is there some kind of parallel universe going on ? I posted a reply ten hours ago and now it seems the thread exists here as well.

The theory is that some DA architecture, (especially with older systems) struggled to sum an accurate stereo field internally, and that an internal DAW fader set very low suffered greater losses getting summed digitally than via external summing, where it was able to exit the converter 8 or 16 times...

Re: Mastering Mp3 for Download
Hello I've recorded the tracks from the vinyl into my daw and done a little bit of work on them to clear the surface noise of the vinyl and bring the volume up but it's still not really loud enough. Hang on - where's the mix you submitted for the vinyl cut ? This should be the file you use to prepa...

Put the labels on the wrong side of 200 CDrs for a client. When doing a mailout, put the franking machine brand label on the items and threw the actual stamps away. Sent to the bank to pay in cheques, he phoned up because he forgot the name of the bank, which was right there on the slips. Sent to Pr...

In ten years I have yet to have a drive speed issue, my CPU has always maxed out way before the drive. Also, remember that all you are really asking for is a molex power and ATA (or similar) connection to get a drive onto your system. Glyph are indeed fabulous, but you could make a DIY version for v...

Maybe try to figure out how much of the sound is due to mechanical coupling, because that might severely limit the effectiveness of any insulation/absorbtion if the whole interior is acting as a resonator. In general, I'd try to pinpoint the sources before trial and error with possible solutions. He...

I've been with Logic since v3 and the improvements I'm most grateful for are automation, environments and mouse functions. Regarding factory plugs, the EXS 24, EVP88 and space designer are perhaps the only genuine milestones I can credit Logic with. That's not because I wouldn't use the other plugs,...
