I've been in Seattle since the mid 1990s and still love living here. There's been a lot of growth here of late - which makes it more expensive to live. However, there's a lot of cool things to do here, whether it's cultural events or getting out in the great outdoors. Portland is a great place too -...

Symetrix CL150. They're cheap (were made in Seattle) and they sound great on cheap dynamic mics.

Thanks to the both of you. It confirms what I'm experiencing. I like the features in X1, and some of the plug-ins, particularly the multichannel compressor, are terriffic. But it looks like I'll be adding a new DAW. I am a long time user of Sonar and the stability has not been an issue for me. One ...

Re: versatile rackmount guitar preamps?

Wondering what folks' favorites are out there. Wouldn't mind something with fx,as well, just not something with 20 pages of submenu would be nice. Need a few flavors of overdrive to fuzz. I had a Chameleon about ten years ago,but dont know what's newish, and not too plasticcy. I like the older stuff ...

Yeah, so, um... I just bought a 24 channel console, a Ramsa WR-S4424. It's dead minty, as in "used sparingly for church services until they upgraded." And the price was very, very right. I was looking for something with mojo, maybe 8 channels.... aaaaaaand now I have a 24 channel-console. Hmm. Look...

I recently picked up a Symetrix CL-150. I love this compressor and it was made right here in Seattle.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I always try to find something useable or salvageable that I build on. From a "psychological" standpoint, one way to motivate yourself is the actual challenge of being able to make something decent out of a mess. It's quite an accomplishment if you can...

Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia.

Man, those old recordings sound great! I am especially loving the bass sound - clean and tight and fitting perfectly in the mix.

I think it's vital to have a web presence. While there are good sites to put your info, like Tumblir and Blogspot, I personally like having my own website and 100% control over the content I post. (especially not having ads and pop-ups.) Hosting sites are relatively cheap and free interfaces like Wo...

RE: Why would an artist have a myspace page today

I think you are much better off with Wordpress and music hosting sites like Bandcamp and soundcloud. Wordpress is an excellent program with great (and free) themes and plug-ins that help give you the site that you want. You have a lot more control over your content and prospective listeners will not...

RE: Ramsa WRS 840 live board in the studio?

I am another happy Ramsa owner. I have a WRS4416 that I got for a great deal and I love the analog vibe I get with it.
