It depends a lot on the musicians. The musicians and their instruments. If competent guys with well-tuned, great sounding instruments come in, I can be ready to roll in less than 45 minutes. If I'm polishing a turd, it can take hours. Trying to make a crappy drum kit sound passable is one of the lea...

I'm at work right now, took a stroll past the basses on the wall. It seemed the P and J basses mostly had the "5 screws in a row" setup on the little fender bridges, and the ones with badass (or badass knockoff) bridges had 4 screws, one in each corner. So you likely will have to drill, but it's not...

Re: American Spirits vs. Regular Brands
I'm the exact same way as Dry County. It drives my smoking friends nuts, but I can go for a month or more without a single craving, then smoke a pack in one night at a party. I can't feel/taste much difference between Spirits and the Camels and Dunhills I usually smoke, personally. A lot of people s...

Re: Hammond M-111 worth the hassle?
I bought my m-101 (same guts, different case) for about $100 and had a friend with a truck help me haul it out of there. I still haven't gotten a leslie for it, but between faking it and borrowing a few, the thing has managed to end up on quite a few recordings. Plus they're a blast to play. If it w...

Re: What are good recording cymbals???
Kildjian K and K customs, Neinl Byzance series, and the thinner Istanbuls all sound great on record.
I tend to like big, thin cymbals to record with. Trashy and good wash.

Re: Mellotron - On the cheap!
I found a couple of mellotron soundfonts that actually sound great. I just googled it, and I think it was among the first sites to come up. They're the only samples on the site.

Thread like this almost make me want to leave California (the land of no damn basements). Almost.
