The next question I'm running into is Thunderbolt vs USB. I'm running a Macbook Pro from 2015, so I can do Thunderbolt, but is it worth the extra cost for such a small setup?

Yeah, I guess that's my main concern...Do those old 1/4" reel to reels have separate outputs.

I'd love to able to mix the tracks as they are coming into the digital. I suppose if there's only RCA outputs on the r2r then I'd have to transfer everything track by track before mixing.
