Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

As per my other post, I just picked up a pair of the Monoprice active ribbon mics. I resisted as long as I could but at $49 each I finally caved. My first impressions are really good. The come in a nice steel suitcase virtualy identical to the one the my 414s came with. There's a pop filter and a s...

Re: Vid19 (it's still out there) and your ears?

Can’t say I had this experience, but I did have to take decongestants for about a week following just for sinus issues. Have you tried this? a little relief but not at all normal. Maybe I'm impatient but I don't like it at all! I get it, I have had my ears get pretty stuffed up before when sick. I ...

Re: Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)

I don’t get the appeal for most contemporary music. For film, it can be cool. We had a top tier theatre in town with the best projection and a real atmos setup, was very impressive for certain things. Sadly they got bought by AMC and I will not funnel any money into them. If you’ve seen those Nicole...

Re: Bass and octaves and low end

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is/was bassless, and there's a Riot Girl band, Wild Flag (from Sleater-Kinney) that's pretty good. I play a fair amount of Bass VI and as kslight said, when the song is arranged for it I'm kinda using it like the Cure, or Joy Division/New Order, or else it's just another...

Re: Bass and octaves and low end

I play bass vi a lot, on some projects it is my primary instrument - but I rarely treat it as a “bass” source in the mix, it is often played as a “guitar” in the vein of The Cure, etc.. Though depending on how their bass vi is configured, in my experience the choice of pickup setting is crucial to t...

Re: Buying Ebog gear

I see this sort of stuff for all kinds of auctions in Japan and I come to the same conclusion - whatever game they are playing, I don’t have time to play and find out if real or a scam.

Re: Mic pads — they all work the same, right?

Yeah I don’t think a pad is there to protect the mic, my understanding is it’s to help avoid overloading the mic’s electronics and or reduce the output level for going into a preamp.

Re: anyone working at 96k?

Nearly every session I’ve recorded in the last 15 years. But I’m not going to tell you I did it for any perceived Sonic benefit, but instead just became habit at the request of the primary client that most of my work funneled through.

Bit the bullet and got the Plugin Alliance's offer to buy all their plugins for $399.

Mind you, I already owned quite a few, so this was to complete the collection, as it were.

YRMV.
Any favs so far? I also own a lot of PA plug-ins already, but mostly stuff like the Unfiltered Audio.

Re: iOS tuner apps?

Hmm I was gonna say Polytune but that seems to be orphaned also. Not a big deal, it was free but worked well. I don’t think about it much bc I have tuners in like everything now…
