Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

If that doesn’t work, then here’s another way that should work: Using the FX/aux sends, but return them down to the line inputs of one or two tracks, and buss THOSE tracks with the other tracks you want to submix down to two tracks. If you need two FX returns you’ll only be able to do 1-4 instead o...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

That will work for my separate tracks! Another question. I’ll have to try this for myself. But say I have 5 dry drum tracks (1-5) and I want to mix them down to 2 tracks (7-8) with effects could I pingpong/bounce 1-5 to 7-8 and run an effect through the send and return of 7, and 8 and get both the ...

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

How would I do this? Use the access points, send and receive. Send goes in the input of your effect, receive from the output. NO Y cables! :alien: That will work for my separate tracks! You could use the inserts however and this would record.

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

No, the 388 is not setup like the above poster suggested, some mixers are, but not the 388. The 388’s inserts are called access, you have send and receive per channel.

Re: Tascam 388 effects straight to tape tracks

To my knowledge, using the fx send and returns will not record to tape in any mode. You could use the inserts however and this would record. Or you could use an external mixer and print the stereo mix of that to tape. XLR to 1/4” cables I think will work fine, depends on the source...I have a couple...

Re: power conditioner/power bars

I’m not aware of any consumer level “power conditioner” that actually does anything about EMI or RF. Most are a glorified power strip in a convenient rack chassis. I have no doubt that bad power can cause some audible issues, I’ve just never been lucky enough to have these be the solution. Usually i...

Re: Replacement Wall Wart For Golden Age Preamp?

Not to be overly snarky, but I just typed in golden age 73 wall wart on google and I found several entries like this one:

Does that look like the dead one you have?

Re: XLR Patch panel - to build or buy premade?

Plus one on haveinc. At the time I built my patch panel and snakes they were the best on price for components. But when you don’t need neutrik and mogami, I have had pretty good luck with monoprice stuff...and it carries a lifetime warranty so if it fails... I’ve never sent a monoprice audio cable b...

Re: XLR Patch panel - to build or buy premade?

I dunno I don’t always agree about saving money on your own cables. The advantage is more towards custom lengths and such...otherwise i don’t have time to build a lot of cables. In terms of keeping costs down you’ve also got to look at quantity breaks...if you only buy what you need now you will pay...

Re: TASCAM 388 VU BULBS *all of them are out*

I don’t think it could be a fuse, IIRC. I think they are tied in individually. It is certainly feasible that they could all be out... I’ve never worried about it though. I have one machine with all lights on and one with several out...and I think one of my previous machines had all lights out also. ...

Re: Mixing your own band's record...

With my music, the writing and mixing stages sort of blur together, so I find it valuable to create a new version of the session and stereo mix with every significant change... when in situations like yours I will go back to the old sessions and see what’s happened, see what got lost, etc. And yeah,...

I’m sure you could, I know people used to like other old models like the Akai DPS24...various Yamahas...maybe could find these cheaper.

Re: Help: Matching Dynamic Mic to Preamp

According to shure, the SM7 is designed to plug into a preamp with 19-300ohms impedance. So I believe matching the impedance better should improve your results.
