Re: MOTU 16A vs Apollo x16 vs ???

I’m pretty happy with my MOTU 1248 (same family). If you want to buy from a company with a reputation of supporting their products, with quality sound and performance, flexible routing, I think they are a solid choice. I would not describe the upper level MOTU as consumery, in fact a lot of companie...

Re: Cymbals Eat Snare

I like to put up a spaced pair of SDC overheads "by the drummer" and pointed at the shells not the cymbals, instead of outside of the kit pointed at the cymbals the way some folks do it...if that makes sense.

Re: Perfect Empty boxes for shipping 1RU devices?

I often end up making a custom size box. If you want the thing to arrive in good shape (no bent rack ears, etc) i have a few suggestions. 1. Remove rack ears if possible and wrap them separately (so they don’t scratch) and same for power supply/cord. 2. Wrap whole unit generously in bubble wrap. 3. ...

Re: 16 more channels of analog compression

I mean I see a lot of the cheap old rack units for sale, cheap...from churches and stuff so nothing most people probably get excited about, but the Behringers, dbx, presonus, Alesis of the world all seem cheap by me...I picked up 3 3630s for like $20 each... Assuming relatively low budget, I’d proba...

Re: Listening to music ... like this?

Since all of my sight lines in big concerts like this have been ruined by douche bags recording video with phones and tablets, I expect those people are now sitting at home reliving these concerts through their screens and distorted audio. I wonder if these same proposed venues have rethought the co...

Re: Who has used Ramsa boards?

I think the problem with these older boards is if you don't have something with a hot name you just can't give them away. But if you have a use for them and come across something that works you can pretty much name your price.

I don’t use tuner apps much but Polytune works well for me, and was free at the time.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I’ve looked at Meris a few times over the years but what kind of bugs me is the secret button presses...ive never been able to try one in person (without purchasing) to confirm my fears. What do you think? I don't think they are that intense - the reverb especially is pretty straight forward. The P...

Re: Clip-On Tuners?

I’ve got a Planet Waves “Steinberger” clip on that is fine as a tuner but eats through coin batteries, not recommended unless you absolutely need something really discrete. I got a couple Monoprice Clip On tuners which work just as well, have a color screen, and are USB rechargeable...but honestly I...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I’ve been selling odds and ends around the studio to fund some new toys. Sold a few old pedals that I never use and picked up a few new ones. Got 2 Meris pedals - The Polymoon (delay) and Mercury 7 (reverb). Pretty impressed with both so far but the reverb (ultraplate mode) has really blown me away...

Re: Recording HD24 tracks paralell to a DAW

I’ve never worked exactly as you suggest but my advise if you don’t know this already would be to keep the HD24 at 48khz, 44.1 is wonky on that machine. Otherwise it ought to be easy to line up - even if you had to do it manually you could just print a sync drum hit across every channel at a certain...

Re: Space Echo RE-201 Questions

You can use blank 8 track tapes (I’ve had good luck finding NOS ones at thrift stores) and splice using a Gibson Girl.
