Re: Time-stretching best-practices? (for a large file)

I don’t know what daw you’re using nor have I tried it but if you have “elastic audio” or the equivalent turned on and then made constant tempo automation that it could follow I think that work work?

Re: Romancing The (bad) Past

Aww man I’ve done some live shows to Tascam 388, turned out way cool. As it happens, this actually can be more reliable than doing a hard disk recording sometimes, because you’re not subject to vibrations and computer glitches. Sweet. I 388 in a club. You must have really been the envy of all the b...

Re: Romancing The (bad) Past

Live recordings are a unique experience, I'd hate to add old intermittent tube mics and tape deck to it. Those cats were much braver than I! Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Traded off a mim strat I didn’t ever bond with for...a couple guitars that weren’t really on my radar but may be closer to my thing...or maybe just good trade material later. A brushed aluminum LTD Page Hamilton sig and a PRS SE Custom 22.

This is how I end up with too many guitars.

Re: Bass Plugins

For di bass guitar shaping you might prefer something more like an amp and/or speaker cab modeler plug-in. +1. I record DI bass and usually what I'm wanting from it in the mix is more mid/high definition. Drastic eq can sort of work but I find just putting it through an "amp" works a lot better. I ...

Re: Bass Plugins

I don’t know that any of these are used primarily as bass guitar plugins, more like ways to make your bass work better on different speaker systems...especially if your bass line is a synth/sub/808 that may disappear completely on bass deficient speakers. Perhaps in certain circumstances you might u...

Re: Cheap marshall clone

at that pricepoint, i'd be dubious. for that kinda $$, i'd say you're better off getting a tiny terror - those things are great for the studio. simple controls on them is a big plus, too. quite a bit pricier, but you can get a Fryette (or Fryette era VHT) for dirt cheap, considering what they deliv...

Re: Hardware Compressors for vocals on a budget

I agree with the x32 or similar digital mixer solution...there’s a reason these are so popular...lot of bang for buck/full solution versus just buying compressors per channel/etc and very practical way to do things. It also means that you can find used low end dynamics for cheap if you must go that ...

Re: Onboard Guitar Pre-Amps/Boosters

Not a recommendation exactly as I’ve never used one, but guitar fetish sells some cheap active effects and preamps designed for guitar mounting:

Re: Logic X Pro - Tempo and Audio Files

All tape machines I've used have some degree of wow and flutter...this is not isolated to the 388, just a nature of the beast. The only luck I've ever had in correcting this is manual editing..yes in a 4 minute song this could easily reach hundreds of edits if absolute rigidity is required. Why I al...

I've heard the same debate with both diesel engines and computers. it's a religious war. I believe there’s some truth in computers. At my work we have a couple 25 year old sun microsystems terminals in daily use still...granted these are not x86 based systems, but I rarely turn the computers off be...

Re: Vocal Mic Bleed

I don’t know anything about the Waves but Izotope RX is like Magic. It isn’t always 100% but it can be the difference between a usable take or not. Basically it has a learn function. In your case you would let it analyze your guitar track and then you’d process the vocal track with the guitar track’...
