Re: Tracking Unusual Instruments

I’ve used a corn shucker on a few songs. Chains sometimes. Dry ice can be cool...if you buy a block of it and hold an empty can to it it will resonate which can be sort of controlled.

Re: Mixing Doubled Vocals

I don’t love straight unison doubled vocals. Generally I’ll pick a lead track and do normal lead vocal processing with that, then guide the double to that (editing wise), often attenuating or removing breaths and t’s and s’s completely, and shortening the tails of phrases so you don’t get that annoy...

Re: Dear larry

Dear Nathan, I forgot we let that go. Yeah, I'm a total fucking jerk now. All my friends have stopped calling or coming by and I hang out with a bunch of angry biker/pirates and we steal candy from small kids while shaming them on social media. Are you familiar with Cotton Candy Randy? That’s How I...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Curiosity got the best of me, so I ordered a Midas 500 series rack to troubleshoot against (have a cheesy Lindell rack on indefinite loan that has issues). As well as the Klark Teknik KT-2A.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

In Black Friday consumerism I ended up with a cheap new Arturia Beatstep Pro, some magnetic breakaway USB cables, some flat pedal board cables, strings, cheap Trackspacer plugin (pretty cool for helping dense mixes), and the super discounted Samples from mars everything bundle.

Re: Need Advice: How to Modernize Layla 24/96s?

Thank you all for the replies! Do you guys have suggestions for new Analog/Digital converter interfaces that take at least 16 channels and Windows 10 driver support? Should he go back to Windows 7 on the new machine to get better driver support? Are there better linux-native solutions? Motu 16a is ...

Re: Need Advice: How to Modernize Layla 24/96s?

My interpretation of modernizing that setup involves getting a modern supported interface (probably external). Making care to dot your I’s And cross T’s with all the appropriate windows and motherboard support. If 16 channels is the minimum requirement then he’ll need to spend some money to get some...

Parallel track band passed or high passed, into a clean amp modeler, maybe? Maybe set to a “Twin” or “JC120” ish amp? Try with and without cab sim?

Re: De-harshing distorted guitars

TwoNotes wall of sound is interesting for shaping/layering guitars...though not really intended for already miked sources, worth a shot. You can wet/dry on the cabinet emulation also.

Thought ya'll might like to know I pulled the back cover off the 388, sprayed some cleaner into the offending pot and it cleared things right up! Yay!
I love easy fixes!

Re: Beyond the MP3, the future of file types

High bit rate MP3s sound pretty good compared to whatever squeezes through the streaming services I've heard...then they get output on phone speakers or earbuds or TVs... We've seen high res stuff come and go (I had forgotten about that Pono project until recently)...and really I think that bandwidt...

Re: Getting organ bass to translate to small speakers

I’m not sure about “stereo” on that bass...I would check your mono compatibility. Sometimes plugins like Vitamin and Rbass can help make bass come across on compromised systems. I don’t think that type of sound really has any harmonic content to come across on a phone though. Maybe try doubling the ...

Re: Best Possible Vocal Recording

I let the artist set up a Shure KSM32 for a backing vocalist he had coming in. we did hours of vocals before I thought, "Seems kinda washy" and went out to see the mic facing the wrong way. It all worked well in the mix though! I thought the KSM44 was so ambiguous as to which side is the front I la...

Re: Tascam 388 Transport Button Wont Play/Silent Motor

Oh I didn't notice what Floid highlighted...I believe that there is probably some damage (or multiple points of damage) from reversing the board...maybe burnt out some of the logic...it is difficult for me to guess what exactly installing a board wrong would do... You may try posting on the Home Rec...
