Re: bare bones interface: emphasis on converters?

Not a first hand recommendation, but "on paper" the MOTU M2/M4 look pretty good/bare bones, early reports seem favorable. I would look into that. I don't know if there's a perfect slot that says only 2 channel interface, where exactly $600 went into converters or whatever...there's really nothing (I...

Re: How long does everyone keep the boxes your gear came in?

Guilty. I have a corner in the basement of boxes. I’ve cleared out some as I’ve gotten sick of them, but it’s getting out of hand. Problem is I usually keep all the stickers/manual/warranty/extra plug bullshit in the box too, so I’d have to go through that too... For big things like keyboards it’s k...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Hi there, long-time Tape Op reader, first time message board poster. This seemed like the right thread to say hello, and mention the new toy. I play a little guitar, and for several years have been reckoning with a 15w Rivera Venus 3 amp, which sounds lovely, but has never been happy in the extra b...

Re: Zoom H6 preamps?

I think when a field recordist says a preamp isn’t great they mean its not great in the context of having to work it to get those (insert ambient sound). With quiet sources they’ll want to turn it up which will bring the noise up, often a weak point for these preamps.

Re: "Getting it right on the way in": Channel strips, risk

I’ll be totally honest, I’m in the “not convinced that any of the above brands will add any of the kind of mojo that I want to commit to” category. Yes, I’ve owned or used some of them. I do agree that committing to sounds is a preferable way to work, just not sure that these are the way I would go.

Re: Can Someone Explain Why This Isn't Working To Me

I’m not much help since I don’t have the Tascam MTS, but track 8 has a dbx defeat switch specifically for when you record timecode and such...are you using that? I’m not totally sure that it should work they way you are trying to...I wouldn’t think that’s for triggering a “pattern” on a drum machine...

Re: Resident audio T4 Thunderbolt comparability issues?

I know nothing about this interface but their website at least is current enough to say not to update to Catalina, so maybe they are planning an update...however I notice their social media pages haven't been touched in over 4 years. This is a big red flag to me, as far as holding out for a Catalina...

Re: Anyone use Waves Tune in Pro Tools 2019 (aka 12) successfully?

so I spent more than a week going back and forth with Waves support. They eventually had me send a session to them - I cut it down to a very small section of vocal that would produce the artifacts about 80% of the time I processed it (but mind you, not every time...). The support dude came back and...
