Re: Archives

I love Tape Op. I love Tape Op Magazine. I'm saying this 2 times before I ask, why is it so hard to get to archived articles at TapeOp.com? I just tried to get to one from a link that was posted on FB. I had to "sign in" to get to it then the whole article wasn't even there? It was a paywall. Maybe...

Re: Your favorite general use eq plugin

I use Neutron 2 as my general purpose. Not strictly EQ, but tons of utility out of this.

I was always under the impression that FOH guys hated it when talent shows up with those things, but I could be way off. I haven't done FOH for years. (Decades?!)
I believe Death By Audio suggests that as a selling point.

What could possibly go wrong?

Re: Death by Audio “Echo Master” vs Voco-Loco as vocal chain ?

I get the impression that the Echo Master is based off a PT2399 chip, which if that is the case IMHO there are far cheaper ways to get that. The voco loco seems more immediately useful and has more control for tone shaping, there are also other ways to run mics through pedals...pigtronix keymaster, ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Got a real cheap Roland VG8 on eBay, for a slightly newer and better tracking module to plug my synth guitars into. Pretty wild actually, the very best of 1995.

Re: Basic home setup advice

Thanks for the input. I definitely have noticed the Pro Tools complaints, so I think I'll take your advice and look at others. I'm intrigued by Reason. As for the Motu interfaces, where should I start? UltraLite mk4? I’ve not used the Ultralite (i believe the AVB is the most current one) specifical...

Re: Basic home setup advice

Something to keep in mind with UAD stuff is of course their DSP only powers their plugins...nothing else. I would check out their website and instance chart against whatever plugins you intend to run and determine if a Duo will provide enough DSP for your projected needs. My inclination is that it m...

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

I downloaded Reaper to use as a recorder for a live show on my old laptop after Avid took my PT9 license away when upgrading to 11...I remember it being a little weird to use and couldn’t get into it. But that was probably 8 or 9 years ago so maybe worth another shot.

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

I'm running on Windows so might be different - although to be honest i too get strange instabilities all the time and have learned to work around most of them if i can. that's really what software teaches us today. how to workaround shit. most of the time I'm not really sure if it is Pro Tools, my ...

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

I thought by continuing to pay for updates I would eventually get a real stable DAW if nothing else, yes PT11 sucked, but I hardly feel like 2018/2019 has seen any improvement at all over 12. I know I’m not the only one that sees daily cpu errors...which I do not get in other programs...doesn’t matt...

Re: Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

Not too harsh at all, I’m not feeling any need for Avid love st the moment. In my own bubble though I’ve never known anyone to seriously use anything besides Pro Tools or Logic. But I’ve got no idea what the real market share looks like these days.

Pro Tools Updated Renewal Pricing

Surprised no one is commenting on the latest drama from Avid... or is no one here on a perpetual or subscription plan? I've been on the perpetual plan, so I can keep on a modern version of Mac OS (and maintain compatibility with other software I use). While initially they brought some good features ...

Re: Speaker switcher recommendations

On a low budget...I've been using one of those Presonus Monitor Stations for years with no trouble. Can find them real cheap used as well. Internet suggests they might color the sound a bit, but I've never compared head to head with something reportedly better...they work fine for my purposes.

Re: 8 Channel Hum Eliminator before Tape

And I agree that if a hum eliminator did actually work that’s a symptom of a bigger problem...probably wiring related? Sorry to not answer the question, I’ve just never heard of a hum eliminator being used like this. To me it seems like it should be worth some more troubleshooting before deferring t...
