Huh?

I don't get it! Can't watch it long enough to get it and don't really want to get it. I guess it comes with the territory of YouTube - the price of freedom.

Adrian Barber

Here's a link to a You Tube video with a voice over by Adrian Barber talking about the making of Aerosmith's Dream On which was done at Intermedia Studios in Boston. Intermedia, one of the first studios to have 16 track recording, was eventually purchased by The Cars and renamed Synchro Sound. Sadly...

Great Visuals

I have no idea how these basses sound, but their visual aesthetics are brilliant. The Italian sensibility of design comes through in a very appealing way.

Quality Work

I've used Lynda instructional DVD's for Dreamweaver and found it a pleasure to work with and, by far, the most effective of all the other methods of instruction I've tried. However, I've yet to use their online version but am feeling inspired by your post. I think I'll check out their Pro Tools Tuto...

Thanks!

Hey Chris - Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to create such a valuable resource. Definitely interested in these kinds of resources. Some of my favorite articles in Tape Op and other zines are about how records were made and what was used to make them. I appreciate it and look forward...

Very Cool!

What an exotic looking bass. Have never seen one before. Do you know what kind of amp it was being played through?

richierichie: I'm impressed by your knowledge and research diligence. I wouldn't have known where to begin.

Thanks to both of you!

Follow-Up

Just want to get back with the results of attempting to remedy the problem. 1) Plugging the computer into a separate AC outlet made quite a bit of difference - not totally eliminating the problem but significantly lessening the whine. 2) Balanced cables did not mitigate the problem, but I should be ...

Hey, no problem. If getting balanced cables back into your rig doesn't help it further I would try a better USB cable as stated on digidesign. One step further would be some kind of isolation transformer between your mixer and the rest of the setup. I'm grateful for the input. The isolation transfo...

You sure it's not this? http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=3&langid=100&itemid=24839&categoryid=34 Suppositron - Thank you. I greatly appreciate your weighing in. Switching outlets reduced the whine about 75% - big improvement. I'll have to keep on tweaking - perhaps another outlet on anothe...

Mackie / Pro Tools Problem

I've been attempting to use my Mackie 1642-VLZ Pro as a mixing board in front of my Pro Tools M Box2. I'm running Pro Tools on a G5 with OS 10.4.11. When I go directly through the M Box, I have no problems at all with the rig. When recording into Pro Tools through the Mackie there is also no problem...

Tough Love

I think one of the two relationships might have to bite the dust. Unfortunately, if the romantic one goes out the door, that's probably the end of the other one too. In reality if you value her as a girl friend, help her find someone whose skills you admire and step aside. No good will come from mix...

The Al Kooper Interview

Thanks so much for your Al Kooper interview in the Sept / Oct 2009 issue. I've been intrigued by the multi-faceted nature of Al's career - particularly inspired by the tale of how he came to play organ on Dylan's Like A Rollin' Stone - thinking of it as a true expression of the vibe required to play...

Great Take!

That's a great documentary. Not only will you get to see Tom Dowd's technical virtuosity, the movie brings you behind the scenes of Atlantic Records in it's heyday as well as painting a picture of Mr. Dowd's ability to produce and interact with all manner of artists and executives. You'll also see a...

Treasure Chest

Wow! What an experience that must have been. Guys like that are national treasures, and, unfortunately, there are not a lot of them still around. It's too bad that we don't have a central archive / museum where the wisdom and experience of guys like this could forever be appreciated and learned from...
