I think TI made some of the chips but ASUS makes their own boards... that being said, many DAWs don't support 64bit yet. A lot of people are getting a system with 4gigs of ram and are calling it a day. On laptops you're spending a crap ton of money on higher ram systems... but if you're going deskto...

What's your budget? You can get a used 002 for about $500 - $650 depending on which one you get. From what I hear adding a BLA mod to it will put it in the 5 star rating in terms of sound. The big down side to the 002 will be future support... Digidesign is notorious for dropping support of hardware...

I'm sure there will be some quantitative difference but I doubt you'd notice that much of a qualitative difference.
