the inconveinience/ non-visual nature of tape to me... That inconvenience can be a benefit, forcing you to make decisions with ears and not eyes. Having learned on analog in the 80's, I've come to really miss the format of ear only decisions and find myself turning off the goddamn monitor when work...

I believe it works either passive, or with phantom to be able to activate internal filtering options.
