Re: Getting motivated on your own music recording projects.
I keep the recording/practice space set up so I can walk in,hook up usb to laptop, turn on PA,hit record. Everythings mic'd up,levels preset, extra mics up and plugged in. I can track a full band live,or just capture an idea. I hafta keep it that simple. Switching sides of brain/thinking erases ideas,...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?
Main-6 1/2"x14" Slingerland Krupa Chrome over brass. A great workhorse! Nice balanced tone, projection, responsive.
Spare- 60's Japanese Apollo red sparkle/mahogany. Tuned highish/surfy. Nice body,Nice crack.
I'd like a Supraphonic someday. I had a deep brass Tama 25 years ago that ruled.

Delay multitap plug in w. assignable panning.
Quest for delay plug in with 6 taps, each with assignable panning and levels. Think Pcm70/Yamaha D5000. I love my Echoboy, just lookin'

Re: The bottom of the snare
I use a beta 56 on top of a chrome over brass Gene Krupa Slingerland, with an sm98 polarity reversed in cardioid (not super cardioid) underneath, both angled 45 towards center,2" off rim, just over edge of shell. Plenty of air/snap from bottom mic,not a lot of "Scritch". I have a radio shack pzm on flo...

Re: ***SOLD*** sE V7 BFG (Billy F Gibbons) Signature Edition dynamic mic
I love them. I have 4 of the BFG versions using on vocals, and we rehearse/track live in a 16'x14' room (2 guitars, bass, drums, pretty loud),and the bleed is actually usable/doesnt need to be mauled. They sound cool on Gtr,Bass cabs,as well. Not a lot of proximity effect, reminds me a little of the Heil...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Even though I was bitchin about it I still ponied up the $29 to upgrade my Soundtoys bundle to the new 5.4 which includes "Super Plate" (the upgrade to Little Plate) and after a couple minutes I think Super Plate might be a pretty nice upgrade. I just did a couple of quick tests but I am looking fo...

Langevin
In my never ending quest to emulate Kearney Barton's/Gerry Roslie's (The Sonics) vocal overload/in your face presence sound,I ask for guidance on Langevin DVC/preamps in getting close to the AM-16 distortion/overload profile that Barton got on The Sonics. Yes,I have plug ins. I have an old magnecord...

LA Studio-help an old guy out
So I'm trying to remember the name of the recording studio that was Motown Los Angeles before they got the huge space on sunset,or hollywood blvd. I tech'd for Soul Asylum recording The Horse They Rode In On in 1990 (?),and we tracked most of the record live at A&M with a truck,on Charlie Chaplin's ...

Re: Reverb flavors
I have 2 pzm's taped on the walls/ceiling as far away from everything as possible happening in the live room, which is not big. Those get crushed through a valley people dynamite on peak limit/de-ess settings. I have a ev 664 pointed against a metal music stand, against my drum set behind me. That run...
