one of my favorite bands ever!
it's all about the midrange.
dry sounds, don't be afraid to affect guitar leads and vocals though.
band live in a big, neutral room.
look at the picture on the cover for an idea.

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
yeah i suppose i was a little more excited cause i've been a longtime fan of eric's work and knew about the more indie minded stuff he's done (i'm from the bay area and he's recorded a couple for my friends bands) and had played with his old band t-ride a few times so i kinda knew he wasnt just some...

Re: Tracking vs Mixing
The tracking skills are a bit easier to grasp, I think, for most of us. Mixing really should use a whole 'nuther set of tools and techniques. I mean, it really takes years to develp your ears to properly mix. We can all throw up some faders and add a little delay and reverb....some compression and ...

Re: Condensor Kick Drum
always! U47fet is first choice, soundelux IFET would be second, and a rode NT1 is 3rd (i think its the nt1? looks like an 87) it is usually 80-100% of my kick sound. sometimes, if needed) i'll mix in a beyer m-88 or d-12 (not 112!) right inside the hole (if there is one) for some attack.

would this really be a bad thing? is it wrong to want to make money doing what you love? i dont see the problem with it.I cannot cannot cannot believe that anyone would accuse Larry of catering to industry or $$. Weird.

Re: no money for a u47...but
yeah i cant even use mine on kick drums because they are totally unreliable! one of them works ok on bass amps, the other cuts out. if anyone from AT is reading this and would like to fix them or replace them with a newer model that is usable on its intended source, i will think you are a much coole...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...
ps. i was very pleased to see eric valentine in the latest issue. while i despise 3rd eye blind and smashmouth as bands, the production of those records along with the death ray record and a few others ive heard is amazing. he is a truly creative guy from what i can tell. pps. if anyone who has any ...

Re: no money for a u47...but
Im not trying to say that the 4047 isnt a nice sounding mic. i bought two of them the day they came out. (i also own a pair of 4033's that i love for electric guitar and toms.) but i have used quite a few orignial tube47's and 47FETs and own some of the Soundelux "reproductions" and would just hate ...

Re: no money for a u47...but
hate to say it guys but the AT4047 is "based on" a Nuemann U-47FET... A U-47fet while an outstanding mic, sounds NOTHING like a plain old tube U-47. and furthermore, the AT4047 while being an ok mic for its price, sounds NOTHING like a U-47FET.

Re: Grammy's Horrible Sound
dave, i've worked with the greenday guys in the studio a few times and have done some live recordings, spent some time at foh etc... positively NO vocal tuning live. billie has outstanding pitch. but he also has one of those voices (as ive noticed a couple times when recording him) that can sound tu...
